MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The men's golf team competed at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship on Monday, Oct. 27 and Tuesday, Oct. 28 with Wagner A, finishing eighth overall and Wagner B finishing tenth overall in the 12-team field at Montclair Golf Club.
 
Wagner's first team posted rounds of 316 and 312 for a 36-hole total of 628 (+68). Freshman 
Cooper Joyce opened with a 77 (+7) in round one, highlighted by three birdies on the back nine, and followed with a steady 78 (+8) in round two to finish tied for 19th on the leaderboard after 36 holes. Sophomore 
Daniel Cassidy also posted a strong showing, carding rounds of 79 (+9) and 76 (+6) to join Joyce in the top 20. His second round featured consistent play on the front nine and a pair of birdies to close out the back side.
 
Sophomore 
Emilio Zapiain improved in round two with a 77 (+7) after an opening 83 (+13), while senior 
Renato Gerena recorded rounds of 83 (+13) and 81 (+11). Freshman 
Guillermo Ochoa Valencia rounded out the lineup with scores of 77 (+7) and 82 (+12).
 
The Seahawks' second team — made up of senior 
Johnny Svalina, senior 
Javier Gonzalez Diaz, senior 
Alavid Melo Iturralde, junior 
Chris Solari and freshman 
Juan Martinez — finished with scores of 304 and 330 after the 36-hole event.
 
Svalina opened with a steady 75 (+5) in round one, notching three birdies on the back nine, before closing with an 82 (+12) in round two. Gonzalez Diaz matched his teammate's consistency, also carding rounds of 75 (+5) and 82 (+12) that featured several par streaks and a strong opening nine in his first round. Melo Iturralde delivered a solid 74 (+4) in the opening round for Wagner's lowest round of the day and followed with an 83 (+13) to sit one stroke back at 157 (+17) as well. Junior 
Chris Solari recorded rounds of 80 (+10) and 83 (+13), while Martinez made his collegiate debut with scores of 86 (+16) and 83 (+13).
 
The Seahawks will return to action this spring to play the remaining half of their schedule.
