Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Earns 54-52 Win Over CCSU For 12th Straight Victory

New Britain, CT - Graduate student Alex Morales' game-saving block on the final possession of the game preserved a 54-52 victory for the Wagner College men's basketball team over CCSU on Thursday night.

With the victory, the Seahawks extend their record-setting win streak to 12 games, improve to 15-2 on the year and stay perfect at 11-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.

Wagner is now alone in third place for the longest active winning streak in Division I men's basketball, trailing only #1 Auburn (18) and Boise State (14).

Morales led Wagner with 11 points and is now nine points away from reaching 1,000 points for his career. Sophomore DeLonnie Hunt was the second Seahawk in double figures with 10 points on the night. Junior Ja'Mier Fletcher led the Green and White with seven rebounds.
In a tale of two halves, the Seahawks dominated in the first half, as an 11-0 run, capped by two Jahbril Price Noel free throws, gave Wagner a 32-11 lead with 3:47 to play in the first half.
After leading 38-17 at the midway mark, Wagner extended its lead to 24 points at 41-17 with 16:39 to play, but the Blue Devils fought their way back into the game, holding the Seahawks to just three made field goals in the second half.

Down 54-52 with five seconds to play, CCSU inbounded the ball to Ian Krishnan, who went up for the game-winning three-point attempt in the left corner, but saw his shot blocked by Morales, which sealed the game for the Seahawks.
Wagner never trailed throughout the contest despite only scoring 16 points in the second half and converting on 18-48  field goals on the night. The Blue Devils held a 44-33 advantage on the glass, but a tough Wagner defense held CCSU to 18-60 (30%) on field goal attempts.

Next up, Wagner will return to the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday, February 5, where the Seahawks will host LIU at 1:00 pm. For tickets, visit wagnerathletics.com
