Staten Island, NY – Graduate student
Alex Morales became the 46
th player in program history to score 1,000 points at Wagner while leading the Seahawks with 28 points and 14 rebounds in a convincing 79-64 victory over LIU on Saturday at the Spiro Sports Center.
With the victory, Wagner stays perfect at 12-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, extends its win streak to 13 games, and remains undefeated at 8-0 at the Spiro Sports Center while improving to 16-2 overall. In yet another dominant performance, Morales scored 28 points on 10-17 shooting while grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds. Redshirt-senior
Raekwon Rogers was the second Seahawk to record a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while graduate student
Will Martinez added 14 points off the bench.
Needing nine points to hit the 1,000 point milestone coming into the game, Morales accomplished the feat with 4:06 to play in the first half on a three-pointer from the corner.
Up 35-32 at the half, five straight points by freshman
Zaire Williams kickstarted a 13-0 Wagner run that gave the Seahawks a 45-32 lead with just under 17 minutes to play.
From there, Morales, Martinez, and Rogers took over, as the trio combined for 34 of the Seahawks' 44 second half points.
Wagner held the Sharks to just eight points off 10 turnovers while holding a 40-31 advantage on the glass.
The Seahawks hit on 28-58 (48.3%) of field goals on the day while limiting LIU to just 10-29 (34.5%) from the field in the second half.
