Fairfield, CT  -  The Wagner College women's basketball team wraps up the week on Saturday afternoon in a clash of undefeated conference teams as they will take on the Sacred Heart University Pioneers. Both teams enter play undefeated in league play at 3-0. 
WAGNER ATHLETICS SPECTATOR POLICY...
  • In accordance with New York State and New York City guidelines the Wagner College Athletic Department has announced the following spectator policy for all indoor athletic competitions:
  • All guests will be required to wear masks
  • All guests over 11 years old must show proof of vaccination 
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult
  • Physical tickets must be picked up on game day (can still be purchased and reserved in advance)

SERIES BREAKDOWN AGAINST SACRED HEART...
  • Saturday's contest marks the 44th all-time meeting between the two programs with Sacred Heart holding a 33-10 edge in the head-to-head series.
  • Wagner split last season's matchup against the Pioneers. 
  • Over the last ten games, the Seahawks are just 1-9 against Sacred Heart. 
  • In their last five meetings in Fairfield, the Green & White are just 1-4. 
  • The Seahawks opened last season's NEC slate of games with a 67-62 win over the Pioneers as it marked the first time since January 18, 2000, that Wagner won at the Pitt Center, snapping a 13-game SHU win streak. 
  • Kem Nwabudu, who made her Wagner debut in that game, was one of three Seahawks to score in double-figures, as she netted 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting. 
  • Teammate Emilija Krista Grava added 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists. 
SCOUTING SACRED HEART... 
  • The Pioneers are averaging 64.8 points per game, good for second in the conference while ranking fourth in scoring defense, allowing 66.8 points per game. 
  • Sacred Heart is equally tough in defending the three, as they are second in the league, behind Wagner, in three-point field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot 25.0 percent from the outside. 
  • Individually, the Pioneers have four players among the top-30 in scoring in the conference, led by Sonia Smith, who is pouring in 14.8 points per game. Carly Stroemel is 14th at 9.9 ppg. 
  • Stroemel is the team's leading rebounder at 6.7, good for fourth in the league. 
  • Smith and Nikki Johnson are third and fourth, respectively, in assists, with Smith averaging 4.4 and Johnson 4.3. 

STEALING THE ATTENTION... 
  • Against Bryant on Thursday evening, the Seahawks rewrote the program's record books, as they recorded 21 steals.
  • The new mark surpasses the previous program high of 17, set back on March 8, 1988, against Loyola (MD). 
  • Wagner now holds the most steals in a game this in the Northeast Conference (NEC), moving ahead of Bryant, who had 20 against Fisher back on November 24. 
TEN-GAME RECAP...
  • Over the last ten games played, Wagner is 8-2. 
  • The Seahawks are averaging 62.6 points per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the floor and 41.9 percent from three-point range. 
  • The Green & White defense has forced close to 20.0 turnovers per game during this stretch while limiting their opponents to just 24.4 percent shooting from long distance. 
  • Krista Grava is the lone Seahawk to average double-figures during this span, pouring in 14.2 points per game on 45.3 percent shooting from the floor and 96.8 percent from the free-throw line (30 of 31). 
  • Nwabudu, Alex Cowan, and Zhaneia Thybulle are each close to averaging double-figures in points (9.8, 9.7, and 9.5, respectively). 
DEFENSIVE LOCKDOWN...
  • Through games played on January 6, Wagner remains among the top-100 teams in the country in several categories. 
  • The Seahawks are the only team in the nation to rank among the top-10 in both three-point field goal percentage defense (7th overall) and three-point field goal-percentage (9th overall). 
  • Wagner ranks 55th in the nation in steals per game (10.2) and 76th in total steals (122). 
  • The Green & White are just outside the top-50 in turnovers forced, as the team has averaged 20.42 forced mishaps. 
FROM A-TO-Z...
  • Senior point Zhaneia Thybulle continues to solidify her name as one of the elite guards in the Northeast Conference and the nation.
  • The Elmont, NY native is 35th in the NCAA in assists per game (5.2 apg) while among the top-50 in total assists (62). 
  • One of the top distributors in the circuit, Thybulle still holds the most assists in a game this season in the league, as she dished out 11 against New Hampshire back on November 28. Central Connecticut's Forever Toppin dished out 10 at Syracuse back on December 5.

HOME COOKING...
  • Wagner moved to 6-0 on the year at the Spiro Sports Center after posting a 65-56 triumph over Saint Francis U in the NEC opener on December 29. 
  • The Seahawks are averaging nearly 63.0 points per game at home this season while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and 43.3 percent from three-point range. 
  • Wagner's defense has been on full display in front of the Grymes Hill faithful, holding opponents to just 54.0 points per game on 35.9 percent shooting from the field and 21.1 percent from three-point distance. 
  • Over the six-game home span, Wagner has dished out nearly five more assists per game than their opponents (15.3-10.2) while producing a +2.5 on the boards (33.0-30.5). 
  • Three Seahawks are averaging double-figures at home this season with Krista Grava leading the way at 14.7 ppg. The senior forward is shooting 48.0 percent from the field while grabbing nearly five caroms a contest. 
  • Alex Cowan has chipped in 10.5 points per game in 26.2 minutes a game at home. The Bowie, MD native has converted on 58.8 percent from the outside at home this season. 
  • Lastly, senior point guard Zhaneia Thybulle has filled up the stat sheet, averaging 10.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 6.0 apg, 1.8 spg in 34.3 minutes a contest at the Spiro Sports Center.

  • Senior forward Emilija Krista Grava became the 25th member of the 1,000 point club on November 28 against New Hampshire.
  • Krista Grava, who recorded the milestone feat with 59.2 seconds showing on the clock in the second quarter, finished the game with 11 points while also grabbing five rebounds.
