Men's Indoor Track Finishes First At Ramapo Season Opener

Seahawks produce four first-place finishes and three IC4A qualifying times

New York, NY - The Wagner College men's indoor track & field put forth an impressive showing at the Ramapo Season Opener, held at The Armory on Friday afternoon. 
 
Overall, the Seahawks took home the team title, scoring 121 points in the field of 20. Central Connecticut (110) and St. Thomas Aquinas (65) rounded out the top three schools. 
 
In all, the Green & White had four first-place finishes and notched three IC4A qualifying times. Junior Thomas Corel delivered an IC4A qualifying time in the 400m, crossing the finish line with a time of 48.65. 
 
In the 5000m, both Anthony Bentivegna and Johnny Sokoll each clocked in with IC4A times of 14:43.72 and 14:43.80, respectively. The duo ranks first and second on the Northeast Conference (NEC) Indoor Performance List in the event. 
 
Track Results… 
  • In the 200m, the Seahawks produced a top-five and in total, three top-ten finishes, led by Joshua Cadet, who checked in with a time of 22.33. 
  • Logan Murphey placed seventh overall with a time of 23.00 while Jason Marchese turned in 23.02. 
  • Along with Corel, Cyril Babcanec turned in a third-place showing with a time of 50.27 in the 400m. 
  • Luke Cunningham finished fifth in the 600m with a time of 1:23.49. 
  • Mahmoud Abdalla and Muhammad Qadri finished fifth and seventh, respectively, with times of 1:56.81 and 1:58.78 
    • For Abdalla and Qadri, they move to seventh and 11th on the NEC Performance List. 
  • In the mile, the Seahawks scored seven points as Andreas Lange took fifth with a time of 4:20.95 while newcomer Jean Uminski posted a time of 4:21.16. 
  • Yannick Garland and Michael Ryan finished second and third in the 3000m, with Garland posting a time of 8:52.86 while Ryan finished in 9:00.94
    • For both, it sets personal-best for each. 
 
Field Results…
  • Ryan Lane took home top honors in the triple jump, clearing 14.07m while taking second in the long jump with a leap of 6.81m.
  • Corey Durden was the top finisher in the shot put, finishing with a throw of 14.89m
    • He also competed in the weight throw, concluding the event with a toss of 14.66m 
    • Teammate Adrian Pocesta placed fourth at 13.36m.  
 
 Next Up For Wagner…
  • Wagner will travel to Boston, Ma on January 28-29 for the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University.
