Hackensack, NJ -  The Wagner College women's basketball team concludes their four-game road trip on Monday afternoon as the Seahawks travel to Hackensack, NJ to take on the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights. 
WAGNER ATHLETICS SPECTATOR POLICY...
  • In accordance with New York State and New York City guidelines the Wagner College Athletic Department has announced the following spectator policy for all indoor athletic competitions:
  • All guests will be required to wear masks
  • All guests over 11 years old must show proof of vaccination 
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult
  • Physical tickets must be picked up on game day (can still be purchased and reserved in advance)

OPENING TIP...
  • Wagner suffered its first Northeast Conference (NEC) loss on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 62-55 decision at St. Francis Brooklyn. 
  • The Knights moved to 4-1 in league play after earning a 65-56 home triumph over Sacred Heart. 
  • In the Green & White's last five victories, the Seahawks have won by an average of 9.2 points (61.8-52.6). 
  • Away from Grymes Hill, Wagner is 4-4 this year. Two Seahawks are averaging double-figures, led by Emilija Krista Grava (10.5p/4.9r/87.5% FT) and Zhaneia Thybulle (10.3p/4.8r/4.8a).
  • For the Knights, they enter Monday's contest on a four-game win streak over Wagner, as the Green & White was last victorious over FDU back on Feb. 23, 2019, a 60-44 road win.


SERIES BREAKDOWN AGAINST FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON...
  • Monday's contest with the Knights marks the 83rd all-time meeting between the two teams, with the Knights holding a 44-38 edge in the head-to-head series. 
  • Wagner will look to snap a four-game losing streak to FDU. 
  • Three of the last four games between the two teams have been decided by five points or less. 
  • Emilija Krista Grava averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and shot 42.9 percent from the field against the Knights in last season's two meetings. 


SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS...
  • The Knights are 7-8 overall and are tied with the Seahawks for first-place in the Northeast Conference (NEC) following their win against Sacred Heart. 
  • FDU is 3-2 over their last five games, scoring close to 60.0 points per game while shooting 37.9 percent from the field.
  • The Knights are shooting just 27.3 percent from three-point range over their last five contest, but, rank fourth overall in the circuit in three-point field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to 30.7 percent shooting from outside. 
  • Three Knights are averaging double-figures, led by Chloe Wilson, who is netting 12.2 points per game, good for sixth in the NEC. Teammate Madison Stanley (11.8 ppg) and Dahomee Forgues (10.6 ppg) are among the top-15 in scoring as well. 
  • FDU ranks second behind Wagner in scoring defense (61.9 ppg) and scoring margin (+2.6). 

 

FIRST-YEAR SUCCESS...
  • Head coach Terrell Coburn has Wagner off to a 10-4 start in his first year at the helm of the program. 
  • Through games played on January 15, Coach Coburn is tied for fifth with a .714 win percentage.

TALE OF TWO HALVES…
  • Over the first half, the Seahawks are averaging 27.9 points per game while shooting a collective 38.5 percent from the floor and 37.2 percent from three-point range.
  • Wagner is shooting just 65.9 percent from the free-throw line while being outrebounded 17.3 to 16.1 over the first 20 minutes of the contest. 
  • On the other hand, when play picks up in the second half, the Green & White is scoring 32.9 points per game while yielding 29.1 to their opponents.
  • The Seahawks are shooting a robust 44.1 percent from the floor and 38.3 percent from three-point range in the second half. 
  • Their opponents have struggled out of the halftime break, hitting only 34.9 percent from the floor and 22.5 percent from long distance (31 of 138). 


HOME COOKING...
  • Wagner moved to 6-0 on the year at the Spiro Sports Center after posting a 65-56 triumph over Saint Francis U in the NEC opener on December 29. 
  • The Seahawks are averaging nearly 63.0 points per game at home this season while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and 43.3 percent from three-point range. 
  • Wagner's defense has been on full display in front of the Grymes Hill faithful, holding opponents to just 54.0 points per game on 35.9 percent shooting from the field and 21.1 percent from three-point distance. 
  • Over the six-game home span, Wagner has dished out nearly five more assists per game than their opponents (15.3-10.2) while producing a +2.5 on the boards (33.0-30.5). 
  • Three Seahawks are averaging double-figures at home this season with Krista Grava leading the way at 14.7 ppg. The senior forward is shooting 48.0 percent from the field while grabbing nearly five caroms a contest. 
  • Alex Cowan has chipped in 10.5 points per game in 26.2 minutes a game at home. The Bowie, MD native has converted on 58.8 percent from the outside at home this season. 
  • Lastly, senior point guard Zhaneia Thybulle has filled up the stat sheet, averaging 10.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 6.0 apg, 1.8 spg in 34.3 minutes a contest at the Spiro Sports Center.
 

WINNING WAYS…
  • In Wagner's 10 wins this season, the Seahawks are averaging 62.3 points per game on 43.0 percent shooting from the floor and close to 40.0 percent from three-point range (39.5%). 
  • The Green & White have outscored their opponents by 10.3 points per game (62.3 – 52.0). 
  • Wagner is holding their opponents to just 20.5 percent shooting from three-point range (39 of 190). 
  • Additionally, the Seahawks are forcing 20.2 turnovers over their ten wins this season. 
  • Krista Grava leads the team in scoring over these ten wins at 14.1 points per game while shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 91.4 percent from the free-throw line.
  • Nwabudu is next at 10.7 points per game while Thybulle has chipped in 10.6 points per game while dishing out a team-leading 5.6 assists per game. 
 
 

FROM A-TO-Z...
  • Senior point Zhaneia Thybulle continues to solidify her name as one of the elite guards in the Northeast Conference and the nation.
  • The Elmont, NY native ranks among the top-15 in the league in scoring at 10.5 points and rebounding at 5.2 caroms per contest.
  • Thybulle paces the conference in assists per game at 4.9 and total assists with 64. 
  • Among all players in the NCAA, Thybulle ranks 35th in assists per game and 42nd in total assists. 
  • One of the top distributors in the circuit, Thybulle still holds the most assists in a game this season in the league, as she dished out 11 against New Hampshire back on November 28. Central Connecticut's Forever Toppin dished out 10 at Syracuse back on December 5.
  • Her mark is still one of the top assists games in the NCAA, tied for 23rd in the country.


E-1K-G...
  • Senior forward Emilija Krista Grava became the 25th member of the 1,000 point club on November 28 against New Hampshire.
  • Krista Grava, who recorded the milestone feat with 59.2 seconds showing on the clock in the second quarter, finished the game with 11 points while also grabbing five rebounds.
