Brooklyn Heights, NY  -  The Wagner College women's basketball team makes the short trip across the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn Heights to take on the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers Saturday in search of their fourth straight win. The Seahawks are looking to go 5-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play for the first time since 1987-88. 

Saturday's contest will be aired on SNY and online on ESPN3 as Paul Dottino and former Wagner head coach, Pamela Roecker, have the call from the Daniel Lynch '38 Gymnasium. 
WAGNER ATHLETICS SPECTATOR POLICY...
  • In accordance with New York State and New York City guidelines the Wagner College Athletic Department has announced the following spectator policy for all indoor athletic competitions:
  • All guests will be required to wear masks
  • All guests over 11 years old must show proof of vaccination 
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult
  • Physical tickets must be picked up on game day (can still be purchased and reserved in advance)

OPENING TIP...
  • Wagner is the first team this season in the league to reach double-digit wins (10). 
  • In the Green & White's last five victories, the Seahawks have won by an average of 9.2 points (61.8-52.6). 
  • Away from Grymes Hill, Wagner is 4-3 this year. Three Seahawks are averaging double-figures, led by Zhaneia Thybulle (10.7 p/4.4a/5.4r/43% FG). 
  • Forwards Emilija Krista Grava (10.7p/5.3r/90%FT) and Kem Nwabudu (10.0p/5.0r/40.3%FG) have always reached double-figures away from the Spiro Sports Center.
  • For the Terriers, they will be looking for their third straight win after securing road triumphs over Saint Francis U (70-60) and at defending league champions, Mount St. Mary's (62-59). 

SERIES BREAKDOWN AGAINST ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN...
  • Saturday's contest with the Terriers marks the 87th all-time meeting with Wagner holding a 64-22 edge in the head-to-head series. 
  • The Seahawks are riding a five-game winning streak over SFBK. Over the last ten games, the Green & White are 7-3. 
  • However, the last five times Wagner has paid a visit to Brooklyn Heights, the Green & White are just 2-3. 
  • Wagner took both games of last season's matchup at the Spiro Sports Center, winning 62-51 on Feb. 4 and 62-58 on Feb. 5.
  • Emilija Krista Grava led the way for Wagner, averaging 15.5 ppg and 7.5 rebounds in the two games against St. Francis Brooklyn. 


SCOUTING THE TERRIERS...
  • The Terriers enter play scoring 63.2 points per game, which ranks third in the conference. They are also third in scoring defense, allowing 63.1 points per contest.
  • St. Francis Brooklyn is the top free-throw shooting team in the league, converting at a 74.1 percent clip. 
  • SFBK is third in three-point field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to hit on 30.4 percent from deep. 
  • The Terriers, collectively, lead the NEC in assists, dishing out 14.9 per game. 
  • Saturday's contest features the top two teams in terms of turnover margin, with SFBK leading at 4.25 and Wagner at 3.00. 
  • Individually, two Terriers rank among the top-30 in scoring, led by Ally Lassen, who is pouring in 12.1 points per game while teammate Nevena Dimitrijevic is adding in 9.0 ppg. 
  • Dimitrijevic is second in the conference in assists, behind Thybulle while Isabella Posset (2.8 apg) and Khaleah Edwards (2.1) are among the top-15 in the conference. 
  • Lassen is second in free-throw percentage, shooting 76.3 percent from the line, which only trails Krista Grava (90.7%).


HEY, YOU LOOK FAMILIAR…
  • Saturday's contest will be a reunion of sorts for several people in attendance at the Pope Physical Education Center. 
  • Khaleah Edwards, who spent the first four seasons on Grymes Hill, is in her first season playing for the Terriers. 
  • As a Seahawk, the London, England native netted 914 career points in 107 games. She recorded 42 double-figure scoring games while hitting the 20-point plateau on three occasions, going for a Wagner career-high of 22 against Saint Peter's back on November 13, 2019. 
  • This season on Remsen Street, she eclipsed 1,000 career points at Saint Francis U back on January 6. 
  • Jennifer Leedham was an assistant coach at Wagner from 2016-2019 and is in her third season as Associate Head Coach of the Terriers. 
  • Lastly, calling the game on SNY this afternoon is former Wagner head coach, Pam Roecker.
  • Roecker spent eight seasons on the Seahawk sidelines, compiling a 112-113 overall record while leading the Green & White to the 1998 NEC Championship game. 


SEAHAWKS ARE FLYING HIGH…
  • With wins over Sacred Heart and Bryant last week, the Wagner College Seahawks are 4-0 in league play for the first time since the 1998-99 season. The 1998-99 Seahawks finished the season with a conference record of 13-7.
  • The 2021-22 Seahawks have outscored NEC opponents by an average of 13.0 points per contest and rank amongst the top five in the NEC in multiple categories:

  • Head coach Terrell Coburn has Wagner off to a 10-3 start in his first year at the helm of the program. 
  • Of true first-year head coaches in the NCAA this year, Coburn's team has posted the fifth-most wins to date.

TALE OF TWO HALVES…
  • Over the first half, the Seahawks are averaging 27.7 points per game while shooting a collective 37.6 percent from the floor and 36.9 percent from three-point range.
  • Wagner is shooting just 65.5 percent from the free-throw line while being outrebounded 17.8 to 16.5 over the first 20 minutes of the contest. 
  • On the other hand, when play picks up in the second half, the Green & White are scoring 33.5 points per game while yielding 29.2 to their opponents.
  • The Seahawks are shooting a robust 44.0 percent from the floor and nearly 40.0 percent from three-point range in the second half. 
  • Their opponents have struggled out of the halftime break, hitting only 35.3 percent from the floor and 20.8 percent from long distance (27 of 130).

  • Wagner moved to 6-0 on the year at the Spiro Sports Center after posting a 65-56 triumph over Saint Francis U in the NEC opener on December 29. 
  • The Seahawks are averaging nearly 63.0 points per game at home this season while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and 43.3 percent from three-point range. 
  • Wagner's defense has been on full display in front of the Grymes Hill faithful, holding opponents to just 54.0 points per game on 35.9 percent shooting from the field and 21.1 percent from three-point distance.

  • Thybulle and Krista Grava are averaging 10.7 points per game while Nwabudu is pouring in 10.0 points. 
  • All three players are pulling down five rebounds a contest with the addition of Drayah Heywardwho is leading the team at 5.7 rpg away from home.

  • In Wagner's 10 wins this season, the Seahawks are averaging 62.3 points per game on 43.0 percent shooting from the floor and close to 40.0 percent from three-point range (39.5%).

  • Thybulle paces the conference in assists per game at 4.9 and total assists with 64. 
  • Among all players in the NCAA, Thybulle ranks 35th in assists per game and 42nd in total assists. 
  • One of the top distributors in the circuit, Thybulle still holds the most assists in a game this season in the league, as she dished out 11 against New Hampshire back on November 28. Central Connecticut's Forever Toppin dished out 10 at Syracuse back on December 5.
  • Her mark is still one of the top assists games in the NCAA, tied for 23rd in the country.


E-1K-G...
  • Senior forward Emilija Krista Grava became the 25th member of the 1,000 point club on November 28 against New Hampshire.
  • Krista Grava, who recorded the milestone feat with 59.2 seconds showing on the clock in the second quarter, finished the game with 11 points while also grabbing five rebounds.
