Outdoor Track & Field Program Garners 2021 NEC Coaching Staff Of The Year Honor

Somerset, NJ – Wagner men's track and field head coach Joe Stasi and his staff were honored as the 2021 Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Coaching Staff of the Year on Thursday afternoon.
 

The Seahawk staff is comprised of Stasi and assistants Ryan Budd, Blerim Pocesta, Preston Borg, and Benjamin Finnigan. This marks the third time in program history that Coach Stasi has earned the award after his staff earned the 2020 Indoor Track and Field Coaching Staff of the Year award as well as the 2017 honor.   

For Coach Budd and Pocesta, this also marks the third time that they have been recipients as well. For Coach Borg, this marks his second acknowledgment, as he was part of the 2020 indoor coaching staff. 

Wagner won its first-ever NEC Outdoor Track and Field title after scoring 110 on day two to finish atop the ten-team field with a final score of 165.  The Seahawks completed a unique triple crown with the victory as the Green & White have now won the three most recent conference championships: 2020 Indoor, 2020-21 Men's Cross Country, and 2021 Outdoor.

Robert Guidicipietro was named NEC Most Valuable Performer (MVP) and Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) at the conclusion of the meet.  The Staten Island native joins teammate Trausti Thorsteins, Josh Russell (2004), and David Walker (1988) to win the league's top individual honor. 

In addition to today's announcement, the conference also unveiled its 2021 All-NEC First, Second, Rookie Team selections. In total, Wagner had 20 student-athletes earn all-league honors.
