STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner rounded out its regular indoor season at the FastTrack National Invite on Friday, marking the team's final meet before the NEC Championships.
Sophomore Julio Tatis made his indoor season debut, running a 49.78-second 400m to finish eighth in the field of 132 finishers. Sophomore David Akinola finished in 54.62, with freshman Christopher Maruyama clocking in at 54.80 seconds. Tatis also logged a 22.24 time in the 200m to finish 19th of 142. Freshman Chase Rogers finished in 22.92, followed by junior Khalil Wason in 23.90 and freshman Christian Mullins finished in 26.78.
Competing in his second meet back this season, senior Julio Martinez cleared 4.55m in pole vault to finish third of 21 athletes. Sophomore Amir Shokry finished tenth with a 4.25m clearance. In shot put, senior Franklin Simms logged a 13.78m throw to finish 12th in the field of 50 throwers.
In the 60m dash, Wason led the contingent of Seahawks with a 7.36 time in his second event of the day, followed just behind by junior Andrew Wood with a 7.39 finish. Freshman Nnamdi Smith was the final Seahawk in the event, logging a 7.59 time.
Freshman Joseph Perazzo logged a 4:44.93 mile time as Wagner's only runner in the event. Perazzo also ran the 3,000m, clocking in at 10:16.54.
Next up, the Seahawks will return to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the NEC Indoor Championships, beginning Sunday, Feb. 15 with preliminaries across the track events, while finals are held in men's weight throw, men's and women's long jump, women's pole vault, men's high jump and women's shot put.
Monday. Feb. 16 will feature closing ceremonies, finals in the track events, relays and finals for the women's weight throw, men's and women's triple jump, men's pole vault, women's high jump and men's shot put.
