Staten Island, NY - Wagner men's track and field head coach
Joe Stasi and his staff were honored as the 2017 Northeast Conference (NEC) Indoor Track and Field Coaching Staff of the Year on Wednesday. It is Wagner's first-ever NEC Coaching Staff of the Year honor for the indoor season.
Stasi led the Seahawks to a third-place performance at this year's NEC Indoor Track & Field Championship, the team's highest finish in more than a decade after posting back-to-back fourth-place showings in 2014 & 2015.
A total of six different men's school records were shattered during the indoor season: (60 Hurdles, 200M, 3000M, 5000M, 4x400 and the Weight Throw). Freshman
Dylan Beard (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Spalding), who is the school new record-holder in the 60H, became just the second Seahawk to earn NEC Most Outstanding Rookie Performer at the Indoor T&F Championships, joining former Seahawk standout,
Bryan Pagliuca, who accomplished the feat in 2004.
For the 2017 indoor season, the Seahawks collected a total of six Rookie of the Week awards, with Beard garnering the honor three times (12/6; 1/10; and 2/14). Fellow classmate
Liam Harris (Cork, Ireland/Kent School [CT]) was a two-time award winner (12/13; 1/24) while first-year runner
Jordan Davenport (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) collected his first weekly citation back on January 31. Sophomore
Lutfi Pocesta (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner) was named Field Athlete of the Week back on December 13.
The Wagner men's indoor track and field coaching staff is comprised of Stasi and assistants
Emunael Mpanduki,
Cory Duggan,
Kelly Pereira,
Kristen Hayes and
Blerim Pocesta.
