Wagner's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff Garners 2020 NEC Coaching Staff Of The Year

In addition, 13 Seahawks garnered All-NEC honors

Somerset, NJ – Wagner men's track and field head coach Joe Stasi and his staff were honored as the 2020 Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Indoor Track and Field Coaching Staff of the Year on Thursday afternoon.
 

The Seahawk staff is composed of Stasi and assistants Ryan Budd, Blerim Pocesta, Jaclyn Panepinto and Preston Borg. This marks the second time in program history that Coach Stasi has earned the award after his staff earned the 2017 awardAdditionally, this marks the second time that Budd and Pocesta have earned the award, as they were also part of the coaching staff back in 2017. 

Stasi led the Seahawks to their first-ever title back on February 22 as Wagner scored 102 points on the final day of competition finishing atop of the ten-team field with a total score of 143.50.  A total of six different men's indoor school records were shattered during the indoor season: (400m, 500m, 800m, Mile, 4x400, and Distance Medley). 

At the 2020 NEC Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, Stasi led a total of 16 Seahawks to the podium while Wagner, in all, collected four first-place finishes in the process.

Trausti Thorsteins was named NEC Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) for the second straight season after claiming first-place honors in the mile and 3000m. The Reykjavik, Iceland native became the first Seahawk in program history to repeat as Most Outstanding Performer at the NEC Championships.

He joins 2019 Wagner Hall of Famer, Josh Russell (2004 NEC Most Outstanding Field Performer) and David Walker (1988 Most Outstanding Performer) to win the league's top individual honors.


In addition to today's announcement, the conference also unveiled its 2020 All-NEC First, Second, Rookie Team selections. In total, Wagner had 13 student-athletes earn all-league honors.
