Somerset, NJ – Wagner outfielder Jared Gillen was named to the Northeast Conference All-Conference First Team on Wednesday afternoon.
The fifth-year outfield finished the 2021 regular season with a league-best 59 hits while batting a robust .396, which led Wagner and was the second-highest batting average in the conference. Additionally, Gillen's average placed among the top-25 in the nation.
The Stillwell, KS native paced the Seahawks in several offensive categories, leading the club in average (.396), slugging percentage (.510), on-base percentage (.437), runs scored (23), hits (59), RBI (32), doubles (10), total bases (76), and stolen bases (16).
Gillen strung together a team-high 13-game hitting streak from April 18 to May 14, in which the Seahawk center fielder batted .460 (23 for 50) with 14 runs scored, two home runs, and drove in 15 runs. During this span, he posted a .640 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage while going 6 for 7 in stolen base attempts.
For the year, Gillen recorded a team-leading 20 multi-hit games while also pacing the team with eight multi-RBI games.
Bryant took three of the four top awards, as Liam McGill was named Player of the Year while Tyler Mattison was tabbed Pitcher of the Year. The Bulldogs head coach, Ryan Klosterman, was tabbed Coach of the Year. Central Connecticut's Jake Neuman was named Rookie of the Year.
