Women's Lacrosse Knocks Off Bryant, Wins Third Straight Northeast Conference (NEC) Game

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's lacrosse team doubled up the Bryant Bulldogs at Hameline Field on Saturday, March 13, winning by a score of 12-6, stretching their winning streak to three straight and improving their record in the Northeast Conference (NEC) to 3-0.

Senior Erin Kerstetter scored four goals and finished with seven points for the second straight game and graduate student Megan Drum notched her second hat trick of the season; senior Victoria Tucci and sophomore Megan Greco both added their third multi-goal games of the season.

Defensively, the physical play of Aileen Hannan caused headaches all game long for Bryant, as the junior caused a career-high five turnovers and scooped four ground balls. Graduate student Lindsay Haas and junior Kasey Dorney each forced a pair of turnovers, while graduate student Giaci Vitolo, sophomore Casey Haas, and freshman Kelsey Scheidel all caused one. In net, junior Lauren DiStefano stopped 10 shots, posting a save percentage over 62 percent for the third straight game.

Emily Diaz netted a hat trick for the Bulldogs in their first game of the season and Sam Ciancio stopped 12 shots in goal.

How it Happened:

Greco scored the first two goals of the game, off assists from Kerstetter and Drum, respectively. After Bryant halved the deficit, Drum, Kerstetter, and Tucci all scored less than 90 seconds apart, putting Wagner up 5-1.

After Diaz got one back for the Bulldogs, Tucci and Kerstetter each tacked on another, staking the Seahawks to a 7-2 lead at the half.

Less than three minutes into the second half, Bryant pulled within three on a pair of goals less than a minute apart, but Kertstetter stemmed the run with her hat trick-completing score.

After nearly 15 scoreless minutes from both teams, Drum added two in less than a minute, pushing Wagner's lead back out to six, 10-4. The teams traded two goals apiece over the final 10 minutes, with junior Maria Henwood adding one and Kerstetter notching her fourth of the day in the final 35 seconds.

Beyond the Numbers:
  • Kerstetter's final goal of the day gave her 150 points in her career, becoming the eighth Seahawk to reach that mark
  • Wagner has not trailed at any point in itsa last three games
Next Up For Wagner:

The Seahawks head east next Saturday, March 20, for a first-ever meeting with the newest member of the NEC, the Merrimack Warriors.
