Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's fencing team earned its first win of the season on Sunday, as the Seahawks split two dual meets at Drew University.
In the second round of the day, the Seahawks earned a 14-13 victory over the Rangers.
The foil squad, consisting of junior
Hallie Tiburzi, sophomore
Anastasia Nardone, and junior
Carolyn Quoka earned a 6-3 win, while Quoka, Nardone, and sophomore
Lauren Foley picked up a 5-4 Epee win.
In the sabre weapon, senior
Abby Buckborough won all three of her bouts, giving Wagner the victory. Buckborough also went 3-0 in the first round of the day, finishing her day with an undefeated 6-0 record.
In the earlier matchup with Drew, the Tiburzi, Nardone, and Quoka earned an 8-1 victory in the foil weapon, but it wasn't enough, as the Rangers earned the 14-13 victory.
Next up, the Seahawks are scheduled to compete at Stevens next Sunday, February 28.
