University Park, PA – The Wagner College men's basketball trailed by just three points in the final minute of the first half, but it wasn't enough, as the Seahawks dropped a 74-54 decision at Penn State on Wednesday evening at the Bryce Jordan Center.
With the loss, Wagner falls to 3-2 on the season, while the Nittany Lions improve to 5-4 on the year.
The Seahawks' best stretch on the night came late in the first half, as a three by graduate student
Nigel Jackson with 6:40 to play ignited a 7-0 run by the Seahawks that also featured baskets by graduate student
Will Martinez and freshman
Zaire Williams.
Following a Penn State basket, the Seahawks tied the game at 23-23 on a layup by junior
Ja'Mier Fletcher with 3:53 to play.
With 20 seconds remaining in the first half, sophomore
DeLonnie Hunt connected on a three-pointer to make it 30-27, but the Nittany Lions pulled away in the second half to earn the victory.
Graduate student
Alex Morales led the Seahawks with 11 points on the night. Both teams were knotted at 26-26 in points in the paint, with Penn State holding a 33-27 advantage on the glass. Redshirt senior
Raekwon Rogers led Wagner with five rebounds on the night.
For Penn State, Sam Sessons And Jalen Pickett led four players in double figures with 16 points apiece.
Next up, Wagner will host Immaculata at the Spiro Sports Center on December 16, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
