Men's Indoor Track & Field Posts Two First-Place Finishes At Fastrack Season Opener Friday

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's indoor track and field team commenced the 2021 indoor season at the Fastrack Season Opener, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon. 

In all, the men's team posted two first-place finishes. Thomas Corel secured the top spot in the 500m as he matched the school record with a time of 1:03.46 while the 4x400 relay squad, composed of Cyril Babcanec, Corel, Jason Marchese, and Joshua Cadet rewrote the school mark with a time of 3:16.57. 
 
Track Results
The Green & White dominated in the 500m with three Seahawks concluding the race among the top-ten, paced by Corel. Newcomer Jason Marchese rounded out the top-five with a time of 1:05.59 while Josiah Cadet finished with a time of 1:07.63. 
 
The 60m finals saw a pair of the Seahawks post top-20 finishes as Logan Murphey took fifth overall with a time of 7.38 while newcomer Anthony Picarello rounded out the top-20 performances with a time of 7.66. 

Murphey also competed in the 200m, turning in a time of 23.30 to finish 19th overall out of 69 competitors. 

Cyril Babcanec posted a top-ten performance in the 400m, finishing the race in 49.83 in placing eighth overall out of 46 finishers. Newcomer George Lamanna was among the top-30 in the race, clocking in with a time of 53.71. 

Wagner was well-represented in the mile, as four Seahawks placed among the top-15 while a total of six competitors finished in the top-25. Andreas Lange, finished ninth in 4:29.95 while Justin Morris was next at 4:30.49.  Paul Siconolfi (4:30.68) finished 11th overall followed by Mahmoud Abdalla (4:30.98), and Michael Hubert (4:31.22). 

Michael Ryan checked in with a time of 4:43.62 to place 19th overall while Michael Brannick was the next Seahawk finisher in 22nd at 4:45.32. 
 
Muhammad Qadri was a top-20 finisher in the 3000m, as he finished in 9:25.94. 
 
Relay Results
The quartet of Babcanec, Corel, Marchese, and Cadet took home first-place honors in the 4x400 with a time of 3:16.57. 
 
The 4x800 relay squad was equally strong, taking second overall as Abdalla, Hubert, Lange, and Siconolfi posted a time of 8:06.86. 
 
Field Results
Ryan Lane competed in both the long jump and the pole vault. In the long jump, he soared 6.81m to take fourth overall and cleared 4.10m in the pole vault to finish in a tie for sixth-place. 
 
Corey Durden posted a pair of fourth-place finishes in both the shot put and the weight throw. In the shot put, he finished with a toss of 14.50m while in the weight throw he posted a finals mark of 15.99m. 
 
Teammate Adrian Pocesta rounded out the top-ten in the weight throw with a throw of 13.16m. 
 
Next Up For Wagner…
The Green & White will close out the calendar year of 2021 on Friday, December 10, as they will host the Seahawk Shootout from the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
