Men’s Basketball Earns 72-64 Victory Over Saint Francis U To Start Conference Play

Loretto, PA – The Wagner College men's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit in the first half to earn a 72-64 victory over Saint Francis U in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener for both teams on Wednesday night at DeGol Arena.
 
With the win, Wagner improves to 7-2 on the season, while Saint Francis U falls to 4-7 on the year.

The Seahawks trailed 20-10 with 12:35 to play in the first half, but used an 11-2 run during the last 3:06 of the first half to take a 31-30 lead on a three by graduate student Elijah Ford with time expiring in the period.  
Coming out of the locker room, Wagner went on a 16-3 run to quickly take a 48-35 lead on a layup by graduate student Alex Morales with 13:29 to play. Graduate student Will Martinez proved to be the catalyst during early in the second half, scoring eight points in the first eight minutes of the second half in helping the Seahawks build their lead.  
From there, Wagner maintained its advantage, leading by as many as 16 on a Morales three with 4:21 to play that made it 68-52 in favor of the Green and White.
 
Redshirt senior Raekwon Rogers led four Seahawks in double figures with 18 points, while Morales and Martinez contributed 16 points apiece. Ford finished with 14 points on the night.   
Morales led all players with nine rebounds on the night, while Ford finished with a team-high four assists.
 
As a team, the Green and White connected on 29-51 (56.9) shots from the field, while holding the Red Flash to 23-52 (44.2%) on the night. 
 
Wagner's game against Mount St. Mary's, scheduled for December 31, has been cancelled. The Seahawks will next be in action on January 6, when they host Bryant at the Spiro Sports Center at 7:00 pm.
