OPENING TIP...
- The Green & White fought valiantly down-the-stretch but couldn't complete the comeback against Big East member, Seton Hall, falling 70-62, on December 21.
- The Red Flash (0-11) enter the contest looking for their first win of the 2021-22 season, dropping a 60-43 road decision at Jacksonville State back on December 21.
- The Seahawks remain one of the top teams in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense, ranking seventh overall, as opponents are hitting just 22.2 percent from deep.
SERIES BREAKDOWN AGAINST SAINT FRANCIS U...
- Wednesday's contest between the Seahawks and the Red Flash marks the 73rd all-time meeting between the two charter members of the league with SFU holding a 48-24 edge in the head-to-head series.
- Wagner defeated Saint Francis U, 70-57, in the NEC Semifinals a season ago in their lone matchup.
- The Seahawks are looking to extend their win streak over the Red Flash to three as the Green & White won the last two contests on Staten Island (March 10, 2021: 70-57 | February 8, 2020: 55-50).
A LOOK AT THE RED FLASH...
- The Red Flash enter play looking for their first win of the season (0-11). Saint Francis U has played a pair of top-25 programs (West Virginia | Nov. 16 & #17 Georgia | Dec. 19) prior to opening league play against the Seahawks.
- SFU dropped its non-conference finale on the road at Jacksonville State back on Dec. 21. Jenna Mastellone finished with a game-high 16 points while Jada Dapaa grabbed 11 rebounds.
- Mastellone leads the team in scoring, netting 8.5 points per game while Dapaa is pulling down 9.4 caroms a contest.
- As a whole, the Red Flash are averaging just 45.0 points per game while hitting on 34.4 percent from the field and only 26.3 percent from the outside.
LL3...
- Freshman guard Lina Loceniece was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
- For Loceniece, it is her third weekly honor this season, tying her with LIU's Emaia O'Brien for the most this season.
- Of note, all of the women's rookie of the week honors this year hail from the three New York City-based institutions (Emaia O'Brien, three, LIU | Lina Loceniece, three, Wagner | Jaila Lee, two, St. Francis Brooklyn).
- In the non-conference finale against Big East member, Seton Hall, the first-year Seahawk guard scored in double-figures for the fourth time this season. Loceniece netted 10 points while corralling three rebounds and adding an assist in 24 minutes off the bench against the Pirates. The Liepaja, Latvia native remained perfect on the year from the free-throw line, converting both attempts at Seton Hall.
- Over the first ten games, Loceniece is among the top-30 scorers in the conference, netting 7.6 points per game while hitting 42.5 percent from three-point range, good for fifth in the circuit.
