Game Notes Wagner

Staten Island, NY – Coming off an exciting 67-61 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, the Wagner College men's basketball team returns to action on Friday night, as the Seahawks host Central Connecticut in a key Northeast Conference (NEC) game at the Spiro Sports Center.

Playoff Picture
With four games remaining, Wagner is currently two games behind Bryant for the final spot in the NEC Tournament. The Seahawks and Bulldogs meet in the final game of the regular season on February 29, with Bryant currently holding the tiebreaker over Wagner.

Series Sweep
Graduate student Curtis Cobb III scored 23 points, including 17 in the second half, while sophomore Tyrone Nesby IV added 20 points to lead the Wagner College men's basketball team to a 76-61 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday night at the Spiro Sports Center. With the win, Wagner swept the season series over the Mountaineers.

Cobb's Consistency
For Cobb, Tuesday night's performance was his seventh 20-point game of the season and second straight. Needing a big play down the stretch, Cobb made consecutive threes to tie the game before helping Wagner go on a late run to secure the win. On the year, Cobb is fourth in the NEC in scoring with 16.9 points per game.

Nesby Heating Up
Tyrone Nesby's 20-point game on Tuesday night marked his second 20-point performance in his last three games. The sophomore also showed elite efficiency on the night, connecting on 7-8 field goals, including 4-5 accuracy from long range.

Sharing The Basketball
Wagner is the only team in the NEC to have three players in the top 14 in assists per game. Junior Alex Morales checks in eighth in the league at 3.29 helpers per contest, while junior Chase Freeman is 10th with 3.18 assists per game. Junior Will Martinez sits in 14th at 2.88 assists per contest.

Floor General
Chase Freeman continues to show tremendous efficiency as the Seahawks' point guard. The junior leads the Northeast Conference with an assist/turnover ratio of 2.59. On average, Freeman only turns the ball over 1.2 times a game, the lowest number among the top-13 players in the league in assist/turnover ratio.

The Series
Wagner holds a 30-20 lead in the all-time head-to-head series, which began in 1939, and includes consecutive wins over the Blue Devils last season. In the first matchup between the two teams this season, CCSU earned an 86-76 win in New Britain.

Scouting The Blue Devils
CCSU enters Friday's game with a 4-24 overall record and 3-12 conference mark. The Blue Devils have won their last two games, earning victories over Bryant and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Next Up
Following Friday night's matchup, the Seahawks will make the trip across the Verrazzano Bridge to face off with St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.
