Men's Indoor Track & Field Competes At METS Championship

Metropolitan Indoor Track & Field Championship Results (Results)

Staten Island, NY - Members of the Wagner College men's indoor track & field competed at the Metropolitan Indoor Track & Field Championship, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.  

Out of 15 schools that competed, the Seahawks finished in a tie for eighth, along with Columbia University, scoring 24 points.  Rutgers claimed the team title followed by a two-way tie for second as Fairleigh Dickinson and Fordham rounded out the top-three with 101 points. 

In all, the Seahawks had 11 competitors finish among the top-10 in nine events, led by senior Justice Stewart, who placed second in the 60 hurdles.

60 Hurdles
  • Stewart produced a season-best 8.48 to place second among the eight finalists. 
  • The Union, NJ native moved up the list on the NEC Performance List to seventh with his performance at METS. 
Mile
  • Senior Nick Velez placed ninth out of the 26 final runners with a time of 4:25.44. 
3000m 
  • Freshman Dominic Palermo checked in at 8:54.78 in crossing the finish line in eighth place. 
  • He posted the third quickest time among freshman in the event and the lone runner in the conference. 
  • Palermo now ranks among the top-20 in the NEC, as he is the sixth Seahawk among the top-20 in the 3000m. 
5000m
  • Sophomore Sean Weir placed ninth with a time of 15:56.46.
  • The second-year Seahawk moved among the top-20 in the conference with this performance. 
200m
  • Freshman Miyaz Baynes was among the top-20 in the race, posting a finals time of 22.86. 
800m 
  • Senior Rob Ruspantini also turned in a top-20 performance at METS, crossing the finish line in 2:02.75.


Field Results
Triple Jump
  • Junior Keegan Reidy produced a top-five performance in the triple jump, clearing 12.56m. 
Shot Put
  • Two Seahawks finished in the top-ten and had three among the top-15, led by sophomore Corey Durden.
  • Durden finished sixth with a toss of 14.23m
  • Classmate Michael Pepe was next with a launch of 13.80m while newcomer Tajhi Tate posted a mark of 13.12m. 
Weight Throw
  • Pepe and Durden produced a pair of top-ten performances in the event, with Pepe placing fifth with a heave of 16.58m. 
    • Pepe moved to fourth on the NEC Performance List with this performance.
  • Durden, who placed eighth with a mark of 15.87m, upped his status on the Performance List to sixth with his results in this meet. 


Select members of the team will compete at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite, hosted by Boston University on Saturday.
