South Orange, NJ – After 277 days away from the basketball court, the Wagner women's basketball team begins the 2020-21 campaign on Friday evening, as the Seahawks travel to Big East member Seton Hall for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at Walsh Gymnasium. 
 
After their Northeast Conference (NEC) opener against Sacred Heart, originally scheduled for December 8-9, was moved to January 19-20, 2021, Friday's matchup against the Pirates will be the Seahawks' first game of the season.

Wagner Against the Big East...

Scouting the Pirates...
  • Seton Hall kicked off its season with a 107-60 victory at home over in-state rival, Saint Peter's, on Tuesday afternoon. 
  • Both Desiree Elmore and Victoria Keenan netted at least 20 points, as Elmore led all scorers with 25 points. 
  • Keenan, who went a perfect 7-for-7 from three-point range ended with 21 points.

2019-20 Wagner Season Recap...
  • The 2019-20 Seahawks continued to make strides as Coach Jacobs' squad reached the postseason for the second straight year. The Seahawks gave the top-seed Robert Morris all they could handle in the quarterfinal round before dropping a tight-knit, 65-61 decision in overtime to the eventual league champions. 
  • Collectively, the Green & White finished the year ranking in the top three in the NEC in assists (13.8 apg), turnover margin (+0.7), and placed in the top five in steals (fourth, 8.0 spg).  
  • In conference games, Wagner was the most efficient shooting team from the free-throw line, converting at a 75.4 percent clip. The Seahawks finished third in assists (13.6 apg), turnover margin (+3.78), and ranked in the top five in steals (9.1 spg) and assists/turnover ratio (0.8).
  • Individually, forward Emilija Krista Grava enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, as she was the league's second-leading scorer (15.7 ppg) en route to being tabbed to the All-NEC First Team. Krista Grava was in the top-ten in field goal percentage (46.6%), free-throw percentage (77.1%) while among the top-15 rebounders in the circuit (6.0 rpg). In addition to her First-Team honors, Krista Grava was recognized by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA), collecting third-team honors. 
  • In addition to Krista Grava, Seahawk veteran, Khaleah Edwards improved on all facets of her game, averaging 11.0 points per game while grabbing 5.3 caroms a contest. The London, England native also placed among the top-15 in field goal percentage (41.9%), steals (1.3 spg), and excelling from three-point range, hitting at a 34.9 percent rate. She averaged nearly two made three-pointers a contest, which was sixth-best in the conference.


Scouting the Seahawks...
  • Wagner was predicted to finish sixth in the NEC Preseason Poll. The Seahawks averaged 59.2 points per game a season ago and connected on 192 three-pointers. 
  • Wagner is set to return three of their top five scorers from last season and ten players in total, who accounted for nearly 74.0 percent of the team's total scoring, highlighted by Krista Grava (454 points) and Edwards (320 points). 


Up Next...
  • The Wagner women's basketball team is scheduled to open the 2020-21 home slate on December 15-16 when Mount St. Mary's heads to the Spiro Sports Center.
  • Tip-off for both games is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
