Wagner College Invitational Results
Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's indoor track & field team commenced 2020 on Friday afternoon at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the Wagner College Invitational.
Graduate
Ben Finnigan turned in an IC4A qualifying mark in the mile to take home first-place in the event. Sophomore
Sean Weir the Seahawks second top-finish in the 3000m while classmate
Michael Pepe claimed first in the weight throw.
Track Results
Mile
- The Seahawks swept the top-three spots in the mile, with Finnigan turning in a time of 4:13.48, which now stands as the top mark on the NEC Performance List.
- Among all IC4A qualifiers, Finnigan's time ranks fifth and is just one second behind Northeastern's Alexander Korczynski.
- Sophomore William Cuthbertson and junior Robert Guidicipietro rounded out the top-three finishers, with Cuthbertson checking in at 4:15.66 and Guidicipietro at 4:18.31.
- Both Cuthbertson and Guidicipietro now stand second and third, respectively, behind Finnigan in the mile on the NEC list.
- Cuthbertson currently ranks seventh on the IC4A list in the mile while Guidicipietro is among the top-14 in eleventh.
3000m
- Weir crossed the finish line in the 3000m with a time of 9:09.14
- With his performance this afternoon, he moved to 14th among all league performers.
- Wagner currently occupies the top three-spots in the 3000m
- Trausti Thorstein (8:16.17) is the overall leader while senior Jonathan Besselink is third (8:26.92).
- All told, the Seahawks have a total of six competitors among the top-14 in the event.
60m
- Sophomore Joshua Cadet and newcomer Miyaz Baynes competed in the 60m, with Cadet clocking in at 7.06 while Baynes crossed the finish line at 7.10
- Cadet and Baynes are among the top-20 in the NEC in the event as Cadet remains 16th in circuit following his performance at the Fastrack Season Opener (7.04) while Baynes enters the top-20 thanks to his preliminary time of 7.07.
200m
- Josiah Cadet and sophomore Cyril Babcanec raced in the event, with Cadet placing fourth at 22.29 and Babcanec placing among the top-15 with a time of 23.18
- Cadet moved up to third on the NEC list while Babcanec is tied for 16th.
500m
- Senior Rob Ruspantini took fourth in the event, clocking in with a time of 1:09.27, which moved him among the top-15 NEC competitors.
800m
- Senior Nick Velez placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:00.21 while sophomore Mahmoud Abdalla took fourth at 2:01.51.
- Velez and Abdalla now stand in fourth and fifth, respectively on the NEC Performance List with their performance this afternoon.
- Senior Alvin Sime was among the top-15 as he placed 12th.
60H
- Josiah Cadet continued his day in the 60H, as he finished second overall with a time of 8.73, which places him third in the circuit.
Field Results
Weight Throw
- Pepe took home top honors with a throw of 14.36m on his first attempt of the afternoon
- Freshman Adrian Pocesta finished fifth with a toss of 12.96m, accomplishing the mark in his third attempt.
High Jump
- Junior Keegan Reidy soared 1.85m to finish third in the event as he now stands in a three-way for seventh among his fellow league competitors
Triple Jump
- Reidy wasn't finished as he competed in the triple jump, leaping 12.79m to finish fifth
Long Jump
- Junior Andrew Ramsammy posted a final mark of 6.07 to place eighth in the meet and moved him among the top-20 in the conference.
Relay Results
- The 4x400 squad, made up of Abdalla, Cuthbertson, Guidicipietro, and Finnigan placed fourth with a time of 3:31.04.
- The quartet now stands in second in the NEC, just behind the foursome from Fairleigh Dickinson, who clocked in with a time of 3:19.39.
