Curtis Cobb III contributed 18 points, but the Wagner College men's basketball team could not hold on to an early lead, dropping a 79-58 decision at Bryant on Thursday night.
With the loss, Wagner falls to 5-13 this season and 2-5 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while the Bulldogs improve to 10-9 and 2-4 in conference play.
Behind nine points from Cobb in the first eight minutes of the game, the Seahawks opened an early 11-7 lead with 11:50 to play. Cobb and Ford combined for the first 17 Wagner points until a layup by junior
Will Martinez make it 19-15 in favor of the Green and White with 4:51 to play in the first half.
The Bulldogs took the lead on an 8-0 run with 2:05 remaining to take a 26-23 lead at the half.
Cobb opened the second half the same way he started the first, pulling Wagner within one, but it was the closest the Seahawks would get, as Bryant put together a 10-0 run and further extended its lead throughout the period to come away with the victory.
Wagner held a 36-24 advantage in points in the paint, but the Bulldogs outrebounded the Seahawks 41-36 on the night, as Ford led the Green and White with seven rebounds.
Limited to just nine players due to injuries and missing junior
Nigel Jackson for the second consecutive contest, all nine Seahawks saw action in tonight's contest. Freshman
DeAndre Wilkins scored his first collegiate points on a traditional three-point play with 57 seconds remaining in the contest.
For Bryant, Adam Grant led the way with 21 points, while Charles Pride chipped in 16 points off the bench.
Next up, the Seahawks travel to Central Connecticut on Saturday, with tip-off set for 3:30 pm.
