Men's Indoor Track & Field Team Posts Five IC4A Qualifying Times At Penn 8 Team Select

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's indoor track & field team returned to action at the Penn 8 Team Select on Saturday afternoon from the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex. 

Overall, the Seahawks scored 22 points to place eighth among the ten schools that competed. The host institution, the University of Pennsylvania Quakers, scored 121 points to take home the team title. Cornell (63) and Brown (53) rounded out the top three. 

In all, the Green & White posted five IC4A qualifying marks across three different events. Sophomore William Cuthbertson and graduate transfer Ben Finnigan each posted IC4A qualifying times in the 800m while juniors Trausti Thorstein and Robert Guidicipietro joined them in recording IC4A qualifying times in the mile. The 4x400 relay team, comprised of Cyril Babcanec, Thomas Corel, Cuthbertson and Joshua Cadet also qualified for the IC4A's. 


Track Results
800m
  • Cuthbertson and Finnigan placed fourth and sixth, respectively in the event, with Cuthbertson clocking in at 1:52.39 while Finnigan crossed the finish line in 1:53.99.
    • Cuthbertson moved to tenth among all IC4A qualifiers while Finnigan rounds out the top-22 in the event. 
    • Among the NEC field, the second-year Seahawk Cuthbertson moved to second overall, while Finnigan moved to fourth, just ahead of Thorstein.
    • Wagner now has three runners in the top-five in the event (Thorstein stands in fifth) and four among the top-15 (senior Nick Velez ranks 11th). 
Mile
  • Thorstein posted a second-place finish in the event with a time of 4:05.58 while Guidicipietro placed among the top-15 with a time of 4:14.18.
    • The third-year Icelandic native moved up to fourth among IC4A qualifiers while Guidicipietro moved among the top-50.
    • The Seahawks have three qualifiers for the IC4A (Thorstein [4th], Finnigan [43rd] and Guidicipietro [47th]).
    • Among all NCAA competitors, Thorstein ranks among the top-30.
    • Currently, the Seahawks have a total of six runners among the top-20 on the NEC Performance List in the event, spearheaded by Thorstein, followed by Finnigan (2nd), Guidicipietro (3rd), and Cuthbertson (4th), Velez (13th) and sophomore Sean Weir (18th). 

200m
  • Sophomore Joshua Cadet placed eighth in the 200m finals with a time of 22.26, moving to ninth on the NEC Performance List. 
400m
  • Second-year Seahawk, Thomas Corel, finished ninth overall in the event with a finals time of 49.89 while Babcanec was among the top-15 with a time of 50.43.
60H
  • Redshirt freshman Josiah Cadet finished sixth in the 60H with a time of 8.49
    • He remains among the top-five on the NEC Performance List

Relay Events
  • The 4x400 squad, comprised of Babcanec, Corel, Cuthbertson and Joshua Cadet finished second overall with an IC4A qualifying time of 3:18.38.
    • The quartet ranks among the top-25 among all IC4A qualifiers 
    • The Seahawks foursome moved to second on the NEC Performance List behind LIU. 

Field Events
High Jump/Long Jump
  • Junior Andrew Ramsammy cleared 1.90m to finish among the top-10, finishing eighth.
    • Ramsammy remains fifth in the conference.
  • Ramsammy continued his busy afternoon, as he competed in the long jump, clearing 6.00m 

Triple Jump
  • Junior Keegan Reidy finished seventh in the event, soaring 12.74m

Shot Put
  • Three Seahawks, sophomores Corey Durden and Michael Pepe along with newcomer Tajhir Tate finished among the top-12 with Durden leading the way at 13.71m, followed by Tate at 13.68m and Pepe heaving the shot put 13.32m. 

Weight Throw 
  • Pepe and freshman Adrian Pocesta were among the top-20 in the event
    • Pepe tossed the weight 14.60m while Pocesta cleared 14.07m. 


The Seahawks will next be in action on January 24-25 when the team travels to Boston, MA to compete at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Invitational.
