Staten Island, NY – After having nearly two full weeks off since their last game, the Wagner College women's basketball team opens December with its final non-conference home match of the season, as they welcome the Stony Brook University Seawolves to the Spiro Sports Center. 


Wagner All-Time vs. Stony Brook: 
  • Wagner leads the overall head-to-head series, 8-5.
  • In the division era, which began in 1976-77 for Wagner, the Seahawks are 3-4 in those contests. 
  • This will be the second America East opponent the Green & White have squared off with this season, as Wagner defeated UMBC, 67-60, back on November 16.

Wagner All-Time Against The America East:
  • All-time against the current members of the America East conference, Wagner is 17-30.
  • The Seahawks have yet to face UMass Lowell. 
  • The Green & White holds eight wins against Stony Brook, today's opponent. 
  • The next closest win mark is five, against UMBC, who the Seahawks defeated earlier this season. 


Last Time Out For Wagner: 
  • Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the Wagner College women's basketball team stuffed the stat sheet, with four players scoring in double-figures, led by senior forward Jordan Hobson's game-high 16 points as the Seahawks defeated local rival, College of Staten Island, 81-57, on Saturday afternoon. 
  • Hobson scored a season-high 16 points, 11 of which coming in the second half of play, in shooting 6-of-10 from the field and connecting on 4-of-7 from the outside in 25 minutes of action. The Richmond, CA native also added five rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block. 
  • Junior Khaleah Edwards chipped in 14 points to go along with seven rebounds, two assists and a steal in her 29 minutes of action. Freshman forward Katrice Jackson matched Edwards with 14 points and seven boards, both a career-high for the Irmo, SC product. Fellow newcomer, Alex Cowan, contributed 12 points while dishing out a team-best five helpers in 31 minutes of play. 
  • Kayla Schmitter led the way for the visiting Dolphins with 12 points and nine rebounds in 32 minutes of play. Jada Rogers added nine points and a game-best seven assists while Megan McEwan and, Diana Todaro and Denise Priolo each ended with eight points. 

 
A Win Over Stony Brook Would: 
  • keep Wagner undefeated at the Spiro Sports Center in 2019-20 at 5-0.
  • even up the Division I series with Stony Brook at 4-4. 
  • be Head Coach Heather Jacobs' first against the Seawolves (0-2 entering Sunday). 


About Stony Brook: 
  • The Seawolves enter play with an 8-1 overall record and currently riding a five-game winning streak. Stony Brook earned a 59-56 victory on the road at ACC member, Pittsburgh, on December 8. 
  • This season, Stony Brook is 3-0 against Northeast Conference (NEC) opponents. The Seawolves defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, 86-73, in the season opener on November 5, a 54-50 triumph over Sacred Heart on November 24 and three days later, an 80-49 road win at LIU. 
  • Two players are averaging double figures, led by Kaela Hilaire and India Pagan. Hilaire is tallying 13.3 ppg while Pagan is pouring in 10.3 ppg. Cheyenne Clark is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 8.1 caroms a contest. Hilaire has dished out 6.3 apg. 
  • Overall, Stony Brook is outscoring their opponents by almost 12.0 points per game (66.9-55.2) while outrebounding their counterparts by seven rebounds a contest (42.2-35.1). 


Home Cooking:
  • Wagner is 4-0 at the Spiro Sports Center this season, averaging 74.8 points per game while holding opponents to just 66 (+8.5). 
  • The Seahawks are a +7.3 on the boards, outrebounding their counterparts, 158-129 (39.5 rpg to 32.2). 
  • The Green & White hold a 64-45 edge on the offensive glass as well. 
  • During the four-game span, junior Khaleah Edwards and Alex Cowan are averaging 15.5 and 10.3 ppg, respectively. 
  • Edwards is shooting 58.5 percent from the field, highlighted by a 52.2 percent marksmanship from beyond-the-arc. Edwards has also pulled down close to eight boards a game while adding 2.5 assists over the four-game home stretch. 
  • Cowan, who has logged 34.0 minutes during the first four home games, has dished out 4.3 helpers a game to go along with her 10.3 ppg. 
  • Sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava is averaging 26.7 points per game while pulling down 8.0 rebounds in 37.0 minutes of action in just three homes after sitting out the Staten Island (CSI) contest with an injury.
  • The Latvia-native is shooting 54.8 percent from the field while also recording 1.3 blocks per contest. 


Over The Last Five Games: 
  • Wagner is 4-1 over its last five games. 
  • The Seahawks have averaged 68.2 ppg over this stretch. 
  • Krista Grava and Edwards have both averaged in double-figures, led by EKG at 21.0 ppg in four games while Edwards has netted 15.5 in four contests. 


Dailey Dose of Hoops: 
  • Junior guard Alayshia Dailey made her season debut against Staten Island (CSI) on November 30. 
  • Coming off the bench, Dailey finished with nine points on 2-of-3 shooting from the field while hitting 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. 
  • The Severn, MD native logged 18 minutes in her first game of the season. 


Poll Position:
  • This season, the Seahawks have already faced a top-five team at the University of Maryland (ranked #4/5 in the preseason AP and Coaches Poll). 
  • Wagner will see two members of the CollegeInsider.com Top-25 in No. 22 Rider (December 18), following today's contest with Stony Brook, who is ranked No. 24 in the poll. 


Dialing It Up From Deep:
  • Wagner ranks just outside the top-50 in the nation at 52nd in three-point field goals per game, averaging 7.9 a contest. 
  • Cowan and Edwards are third and sixth, respectively, in the Northeast Conference (NEC) in three-point field goals per game, averaging 2.29 and 2.00 a contest. 
  • Cowan ranks 44th in the NCAA in 3PT field goal percentage, shooting 45.7 percent from long range. 


Final Five:
  • In the final five minutes of the game, Wagner is a +4.9 in scoring margin, scoring 13.6 points while holding their opponents to just 8.7. 
  • In this span, Wagner is shooting 57.7 percent from the field (30-of-52) while their counterparts are converting just 32.6 percent shooting (15-of-46). 


That's Raad:
  • Wagner women's basketball play-by-play announcer, Keith Raad, who is in his third year covering the Seahawks, recently garnered the Warner Fusselle Award for Radio Excellence, through his work with the 2019 New York-Penn League champions, the Brooklyn Cyclones. 
  • The award is given annually by the NYPL to the radio or TV/video streaming broadcaster whose work is deemed exemplary based on baseball knowledge, delivery, production values, and overall presentation, according to the league. 
  • The Warner Fusselle Award is named for the late former broadcaster, who was the voice of the Brooklyn Cyclones from 2001 until his passing in 2012. Fusselle's long career included time as host and narrator of "This Week in Baseball." 
  • Raad also serves as the play-by-play announcer for the Seahawks football program as well as the Seahawk baseball team while doing spot work as a public address announcer at select games.
