Youngstown, OH – The Wagner women's basketball team, winners of three straight, hits the road on Saturday as they will travel to Youngstown, OH to take on Horizon League members, Youngstown State. 


Wagner All-Time vs. Youngstown State:
  • Saturday is the first-ever meeting between the two schools.


Wagner All-Time Against The Horizon League:
  • Against the current members of the Horizon League, Wagner is 3-1 with victories over Cleveland State, IUPUI, and Wright State. 
  • The last time the Seahawks faced a Horizon League team was back during the 2009-10 season when Wagner and IUPUI faced off in the Christmas City Classic, hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA. 
  • Wagner was victorious over the Jaguars, 59-47. 


Last Time Out For Wagner: 
  • For the second time in three games, the contest was decided in the final moments as Morgan Lenahan inbounded the ball and found teammate Khaleah Edwards slashing to the hoop as Edwards drove the lane and put in what turned out to be the game-winner as the Wagner women's basketball team defeated NJIT, 61-59, in earning its third straight home win. 
  • Four Seahawks finished in double figures led by Edwards, who had a team-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor while grabbing a team-best eight rebounds.
  • Amanda Pollard had a career evening, scoring a season and career-high 13 points on 4-of-10 while hitting three from the outside. Freshman guard Alex Cowan was next with 12 points and reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, Emilija Krista Grava finished with 11 points and six rebounds. 
  • Lenahan, who was the inbounder in Wagner's thriller over Saint Peter's dished out a team-best six helpers, which included the clincher to Edwards. 
  • The visiting Highlanders, who held a 59-56 lead with 1:12 remaining in the contest, had three players score in double-digits, led by Danielle Tunstall, who notched a double-double in concluding with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Maddie Martin netted 19 points and dished out seven assists while Kenna Squier added ten points.
     


A Win Over Youngstown State Would...
  • be Wagner's first over Youngstown State.
  • be the Green & White's first road win of the 2019-20 season. 
  • be the fourth all-time victory over a member of the Horizon League and move Wagner to 3-2 all-time against teams from the state of Ohio. 
  • be Wagner's fourth straight victory. 


About Youngstown State...
  • Youngstown State enters today's contest sporting a 2-3 overall record after falling to in-state rival, Akron, 91-62, Wednesday evening on the road at the James A. Rhodes Arena.  
  • McKenah Peters scored a team-high 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting in 25 minutes of action. 
  • Mady Aulbach chipped in 11 points on 2-of-4 shooting from the field and went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in her 19 minutes of play. 
  • Mary Dunn is the team's leading scorer as she is pouring in 17.0 points per game in 29.0 minutes of action. 
  • Chelsea Olson, the team's second-leading scorer at 9.3 ppg, is close to averaging a double-double for the season, as she is the team's leader on the boards, pulling down 9.4 a contest while also dishing out 4.2 assists a game. She is also pacing the club with four blocks. 
  • Taylor Petit is the third player to net double-digits at 10.0 points per game in 28.3 mpg. 
  • Wagner is the second of three Northeast Conference (NEC) opponents that Youngstown will see, as the Penguins will travel to Saint Francis U on December 7. 


Krista Grava Named NEC & College Sports Madness Player of the Week...
  • Wagner sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
  • Additionally, Krista Grava was named to the College Sports Madness Mid-Major National Player of the Week
  • For Krista Grava, it is her first Player of the Week citation and second overall from the conference, as she was tabbed Rookie of the Week almost a year to the day (November 18).
  • The Ligatne, Latvia native put on an absolute clinic for the Seahawks in leading Wagner to a 2-0 week, which included the game-winner against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members, Saint Peter's.
  • Facing a one-point deficit, 89-88 with 2.4 seconds left, redshirt junior guard Morgan Lenahan lofted the inbounds pass high over a Saint Peter's defender to Krista Grava, who pulled down the ball, spun and rattled home what turned out to be the game-winner as Wagner defeated the Peacocks, 90-89, on Wednesday evening in Wagner's home opener at the Spiro Sports Center.
  • The second-year forward went for a career-high 45 points, 21 of which came in the first half, as she finished the contest shooting 21-of-33 from the floor while recording a double-double in the process, grabbing 11 rebounds. She surpassed her previous career-high of 20 points, which she recorded in the season opener at then ranked No.4/5, Maryland.
  • The 45 point outburst marked the first time since December 18, 2015 in which a Seahawk eclipsed the 40-point threshold, as former Seahawk standout, Jasmine Nwajei, netted 45 at home against Stony Brook.
  • The point total moved her into a tie with Nwajei for third-place on the single-game scoring list while her 21 made field goals set a new single-game high mark.
  • For the two-game stretch, Krista Grava averaged a robust 34.5 points per game to go along with 9.0 rebounds while shooting 64.6 percent from the field.
  • Closing out the week at home against UMBC, Krista Grava led the way for the Green & White with a team-high 24 points on an efficient 10-of-15 shooting from the field while corralling seven caroms in 37 minutes of work.


Poll Position...
  • This season, the Seahawks have already faced a top-five team at the University of Maryland (ranked #4/5 in the preseason AP and Coaches Poll). 
  • To start the month of December, the Green & White will see a trio of teams that received votes in the CollegeInsider.com Top-25. 
  • Wagner will first host Stony Brook on December 15 as the Seawolves received votes in the poll. 
  • Rider, who is ranked #25 according to this week's poll, will follow next on December 18 and the Seahawks conclude against Colgate on December 22. 


Home Cooking...
  • During Wagner's three-game winning streak, with all three victories coming at the Spiro Sports Center, the Seahawks are averaging 72.7 points per game and shooting 43.5 percent from the field. 
  • The Green & White are outrebounding their opponents over the trio of games by nine rebounds a contest (40.3-31.3). 
  • The Seahawks hold a 48-31 edge on the offensive glass, outworking their opponents by nearly six offensive rebounds a contest (16-10.3). 
  • During this three-game span, sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava, the reigning NEC Player of the Week, is averaging 26.7 points per game while pulling down 8.0 rebounds in 37.0 minutes of action. 
  • The Latvia-native is shooting 54.8 percent from the field while also recording 1.3 blocks per contest. 
  • Junior Khaleah Edwards has stepped up for the Seahawks, averaging 16.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, while shooting 62.1 percent from the floor and 58.8 percent from the outside. 
  • Edwards converted on what turned out to be the game-winner over NJIT in Wagner's 61-59 victory on November 19. 
  • Freshman Alex Cowan and redshirt freshman Amanda Pollard have been instrumental for Wagner during this stretch. 
  • Cowan is tallying close to 10.0 ppg (9.7 ppg), 4.7 rpg, 4.0 apg in 35.0 mpg while Pollard, who only played eight games in 2018-19, has netted 7.7 ppg while logging 23.0 minutes of the bench and shooting 45.5 percent from the outside, highlighted by a career-night of 13 points against NJIT.  
  • The Green & White's three-game home winning streak matches the 2008-09 Seahawk squad, who opened that year with three straight wins (Nov. 14 vs. Army [59-58]; Nov. 18 vs. NJIT [82-73]; and Dec. 1 vs. Colgate [58-56, OT]. 


Dishing The Rock...
  • Through games played 11/20/19, Wagner ranks 10th in the entire NCAA in total assists, dishing out 87 through five games. 
  • Collectively, Wagner is averaging 17.4 per game, which leads the Northeast Conference (NEC). ​​​​​​​
  • Redshirt junior guard Morgan Lenahan ranks 32nd in the nation in total assists with 24, which is second in the conference behind St. Francis Brooklyn's Nevena Dimitrijevic (30). ​​​​​​​
  • Lenahan is averaging 4.8 helpers a game, which ranks among the top-100 in the nation. 


At The Buzzer... Again...
  • Tuesday's 61-59 victory over NJIT was Wagner's second "buzzer" beater in a three-game span. 
  • On November 13, facing a one-point deficit with 2.4 seconds left, Morgan Lenahan inbounded the ball over a Saint Peter's defender to Emilija Krista Grava, who pulled down the ball, spun and rattled home what turned out to be the game-winner as Wagner edged the Peacocks, 90-89.
  • Moving to November 19, in deja vu fashion, Lenahan inbounded the ball with 3.4 seconds and found Khaleah Edwards slashing to the hoop ad she drove the lane and put in what turned out to be the game-winner as the Seahawks edged NJIT, 61-59, in earning the team's third straight win. 
 

Dialing It Up From Deep... 
  • Wagner ranks 19th in the country in three-point field goals attempted with 118, which second in the NEC to Mount St. Mary's (130). 
  • The Seahawks are ranked 23rd in three-point field made, hitting 39 thus far, which is three behind the Mountaineers. 
  • Alex Cowan and Khaleah Edwards rank first and sixth, respectively in the NEC in 3PT made.


EKG Levels...
  • An All-NEC Rookie Team selection a season ago, Emilija Krista Grava is having a breakout sophomore season thus far through five games. 
  • On a national scale, Krista Grava is third in field goals made (45), seventh in total points (106), 13th in field goals attempted (83), and 30th in points per game (21.2).  


NEXT UP FOR WAGNER...
  • Wagner concludes the first month of the regular season at home as they welcome local rival, Division II member, Staten Island (CSI) to the Spiro Sports Center on November 30.
