Staten Island, NY – After a thrilling 90-89 come-from-behind win on Wednesday evening in the home opener, the Wagner College women's basketball team will look for back-to-back wins as the Seahawks welcome America East members, UMBC, on Saturday afternoon to the Spiro Sports Center. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

Wagner All-Time vs. UMBC:
  • Saturday's contest marks the 11th all-time meeting between these two former Northeast Conference (NEC) members, as UMBC leads the all-time series, 6-4.
  • The last time these two schools met was back on December 28, 2012, as part of the 22nd Annual Saint Joseph's Hawks Classic, in Philadelphia, PA, in which the Seahawks fell, 48-43.
  • All-time, Wagner is 3-1 in-home contests against the Retrievers, last picking up a 62-44 triumph at the Spiro Sports Center back on February 22, 2003.
  • UMBC, originally called the University of Baltimore, was part of the original ECAC Metro Conference when it was established in 1981.
  • The Retrievers left in 1983 and joined the America East in 2003.

Last Time Out For Wagner:
  • Facing a one-point deficit, 89-88 with 2.4 seconds left, redshirt junior guard Morgan Lenahan lofted the inbounds pass high over a Saint Peter's defender to sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava, who pulled down the ball, spun and rattled home what turned out to be the game-winner as the Wagner College women's basketball team defeated the Peacocks, 90-89, on Wednesday evening in Wagner's home opener at the Spiro Sports Center.
  • Krista Grava put on a shooting clinic in the contest, going for a new career-high 45 points, 21 of which came in the first half, on 21-of-33 (63.6%) shooting from the field while pulling down 11 rebounds in recording her second career double-double.
  • For the second-year forward from Ligatne, Latvia, the 45-point outburst surpasses her previous best of 20, set just a week ago at then-ranked No. 4/5 Maryland.
  • In addition to Krista Grava's career evening, the Seahawks got a boost from junior Khaleah Edwards, who poured in a new-career best, 22 points, on 8-of-11 from the field and hitting on 4-of-5 from long range. The London, England native also notched her first career double-double, concluding with a game-best 12 caroms in the victory.
  • Five Peacocks notched double-figures, led by Taiah Thornton, who led the way for the visitors with 17 points. Gabrielle Harris chipped in 16 points to go along with four rebounds and four steals.
  • Briyanah Richardson & Kendrea Williams each concluded the contest with 11 points apiece while Yamel Abreu rounded out the quintet with ten points.

About UMBC...
  • UMBC, who was predicted to finish eighth in the America East preseason coaches poll, is off to a 2-1 start, with victories over Gettysburg (92-50) and more recently, a 71-48 win over Coppin State.
  • In the contest against Coppin State on 11/13, Te'yJah Oliver finished with a game-high 19 points as she connected on 4-of-7 from the outside in 36 minutes of play.
  • Janee'a Summers notched a double-double, ending with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting while pulling down a game-best 12 rebounds.
  • The Retrievers scored 28 points inside the paint to Coppin State's 12.
  • Three UMBC players are currently averaging double-digits in scoring led by Oliver, who is pouring in 19.3 points per game and leads the team with eight made three-pointers.
  • Summers is next, recording 11.7 ppg while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and pulling down a team-leading 7.3 caroms a contest.
  • Lyric Swann is the third member to average double-figures, as she is averaging 10.0 ppg and is second on the team in steals with seven thus far.
  • As a whole, UMBC is outscoring its opponents by 18 points per game while shooting close to 50.0 percent from the field (48.0%) and hold a +7.7 edge on the boards over their opponents (42.3 rpg to 34.7 rpg).

A WIN WOULD...
  • give Wagner back-to-back victories after defeating Saint Peter's, 90-89, on Wednesday.
  • improve the Seahawks record to 2-0 at home this season.
  • be the fifth all-time victory over UMBC.
  • mark the first win over an America East member since defeating Stony Brook, 76-70, at home back on December 21, 2014.
  • be head coach Heather Jacobs' first over the Retrievers.

HOME COOKING...
  • Wednesday's thrilling 90-89 victory over Saint Peter's, which was the 50th home opener in the history of the Wagner, moved Wagner to 29-21 all-time in home openers.
  • Since 1976-77 season, in which the Seahawks were elevated to Division I, the Green & White are now 24-20 all-time in home openers while going 2-2 under fourth-year head coach, Heather Jacobs.

EKG ALERT...
  • Against Saint Peter's at the Spiro Sports Center on November 13, sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava put on a shooting clinic en route to a historic evening.
  • Krista Grava scored with 2.4 left in regulation as the Seahawks edged the Peacocks, 90-89.
  • The second-year forward finished with a career-high 45 points, 21 of which coming in the first half, on 21-of-33 (63.6%) shooting from the field while pulling down 11 rebounds in recording her second career double-double.
  • The 45 points marked the first time since December 18, 2015, in which former Seahawk standout, Jasmine Nwajei, hit for the same mark at home against Stony Brook.
  • Additionally, Krista Grava's performance elevates her into a tie with Nwajei for thrid-place on the Wagner single-game scoring list.
  • Also, the second-year forward's spectacular game came on the heels of another home contest gem, as, on Tuesday evening, in the Wagner men's home opener, graduate transfer Curtis Cobb III went for 40 in a win over Wesley.
  • The 21 made field goals is now a new single-game high in program history.
  • Her 33 attempts are tied for ninth-most in a single-game with Nwajei, who had two games with 33 attempts, the last coming on the road at Sacred Heart (1/11/16).

DOUBLE-DOUBLE...
  • In Wednesday's victory, Krista Grava notched a double-double, the second in her career, finishing with 45 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Fellow teammate, junior Khaleah Edwards, had a breakout game of her own, finishing with a new career-high of 22 points, on 8-of-11 shooting, while pulling down a game-best 12 rebounds.
  • Krista Grava and Edwards are the first Seahawks to have a double-double in the same game since Jasmine Nwajei and Sofia Roma did so against Fairleigh Dickinson back on 2/22/16 on the road as Nwajei finished with 33 points and 13 rebounds and Roma added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

COWAN NAMED NEC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK...
  • Wagner College women's basketball freshman Alex Cowan has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
  • Cowan, a guard from Bowie, MD, averaged 33.5 minutes of playing time through the first two games of her Seahawk career while contributing 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. She also converted on 48.1 percent shooting from the floor, 62.5 percent from three-point range while going 12-of-16 (75.0%) from the charity stripe.
  • In the season opener at Big Ten member, #4/5 Maryland, Cowan led the way with a game-high 25 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor, which included 7-of-10 from the charity stripe in 31 minutes of play. She followed that up with a team-high 23 at Butler, in which she converted on six three-pointers in nine tries while playing 36 minutes.
  • For Cowan, the 25 point outburst at Maryland is tied for the sixth-best point total by a rookie this season while her 23-point performance at Butler is tied for the 11th highest in the nation thus far.

CRASHING THE BOARDS...
  • Wagner, as a team, recorded 54 total rebounds and outrebounded Saint Peter's by 19 caroms.
  • The 54 total rebounds are the most in a game since January 30, 2016, at Mount St. Mary's, when the Seahawks corralled 51 boards, 32 on the defensive end.

TURNING IT OVER...
  • Against Big East member, Butler, on November 9, the Seahawks' defense forced 26 Bulldog turnovers.
  • That was the most since last season when the Green & White forced 29 mishaps against Staten Island, back on December 21, 2018.

RAVE REVIEW...
  • After appearing in just six games a season ago, sophomore guard Raven Pitt, made the most of her chance against Big East member Butler last Saturday.
  • In 23 minutes off-the-bench, Pitt was the team's second-leading scorer, scoring a career-high eight points on 3-of-5 shooting while grabbing two rebounds, two steals and dishing out an assist against the Bulldogs.

DISHING THE ROCK...
  • Wagner dished out 25 assists against Saint Peter's.
  • Redshirt junior guard Morgan Lenahan was credited with eight helpers, setting a new career high in the process.

ACTION JACKSON...
  • Freshman forward Katrice Jackson, one of three newcomers to the squad, scored her first collegiate points last Saturday against Butler, finishing with four points on 2-of-4 shooting in 11 minutes of action.
