Staten Island, NY –  The Wagner College women's basketball team concludes the second week of Northeast Conference (NEC) play as the Seahawks welcome Fairleigh Dickinson this evening to the Spiro Sports Center.  Wagner is looking to bounce back after suffering a 80-68 loss to Sacred Heart while the Knights are looking for back-to-back wins, after earning an 74-67 home win over Central Connecticut. 
Inside The Numbers:
  • 1249 - Monday's contest will mark the 1,249 game in the history of the Wagner women's basketball program as the Seahawks have won 524 games.

  • The Wagner College women's basketball team dropped an 80-68 decision on Saturday afternoon to the Sacred Heart University Pioneers in Northeast Conference (NEC) action at the Spiro Sports Center.
  • With the loss, the Seahawks dips to 3-11 overall and 1-2 in league contests while the Pioneers hit the .500 mark at 7-7 overall while remaining undefeated in conference tilts at 3-0.
  • Three Seahawks finished the ballgame scoring in double figures, led by redshirt sophomore forward, Taylah Simmons, who poured in 16 points to go along with a team-leading eight rebounds in 33 minutes of action. For Simmons, it marks her fourth straight game scoring in double digits and the sixth time she has done so in her last seven games.
  • Senior guard Nakylia Carter and freshman forward Emilija Krista Grava each added 14 points on a combined 11-of-23 shooting from the field. Carter dished out a game-high six assists, the third time in her last four games that she has dished out five or more helpers to go along with five rebounds while playing the full forty.
  • Krista Grava reached double figures for the fourth time in her last five games as she added seven rebounds while rejecting two shots in her 30 minutes of action. Sophomore Khaleah Edwards contributed nine points while Alayshia Dailey contributed six.
  • Katherine Haines led four Pioneers in scoring on the afternoon, rattling in a game-best 22 points while also pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds in the victory. Haines also had four blocks in her 34 minutes of play. Candice Leatherwood netted 20 points on just 2-of-6 shooting from the floor, but got the majority of her points from the free throw line, converting 15-of-17 from the charity stripe.
  • Adrianne Hagood and Oliva Dabney also notched double digit performances, scoring 16 and 13, respectively on a collective 10-of-19 shooting from the field, which included a combined 5-of-9 display from the outside.
Inside The Wagner | Fairleigh Dickinson Series:
  • Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson are squaring off for the 75th time, or the "Diamond Anniversary," with the Knights leading the head-to-head series, 40-34. 
  • Last season, the Knights swept the season series from Wagner, earning a 74-64 win at the Spiro Sports Center on 1/6/18 and sealed the season series with a narrow, 62-61, victory at the Rothman Center back on 2/12/18. 
  • Since 2002, Wagner is just 9-13 against the Knights. 
  • The Seahawks are looking to snap a two skid against FDU, last picking up a 74-66 road triumph back on February 4, 2017. The last time Wagner defeated the Knights on Staten Island came back on February 14, 2015, in which the Green & White earned a 82-75 victory.

  • As of 1/8/19, Wagner ranks 47th in the entire NCAA in three-point field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to just 27.5 percent shooting from the outside. Among the ten-NEC schools, Wagner is second in this department, trailing Central Connecticut (26.5). 
  • Sophomores Taylah Simmons and Khaleah Edwards rank fourth and sixth, respectively, among all second-year NEC players in scoring, with Simmons tallying 10.9 ppg and Edwards at 9.2. Fellow classmate Alayshia Dailey, who is pouring in 7.1 points a game, is tied for second among NEC-sophomores in assists, dishing out 2.7 a contest, which is tied with Nina Augustin (Robert Morris) and Karson Swogger (Saint Francis U). 
  • Freshman forward Emilija Krista Grava ranks second among all NEC-newcomers in minutes played (28.7), second in rebounds (5.8 rpg), fourth in scoring (10.0 ppg), and fifth in field percentage (42.9%).  
  • Redshirt sophomore Joellen How tied a Wagner season-high with her career-high seven assists against Central Connecticut. The seven helpers match senior guard, Nakylia Carter, who also dished out seven assists against Staten Island (12/21/18). 
  • Carter saw her six-game streak of three or more steals come to a close at Central Connecticut.
  • Wagner is 3-0 this season when leading at halftime, outscoring their opponents by 13.0 points (43.7 to 30.7). The Seahawks are shooting 56.8 percent from the field in these contests while connecting on 55.6 percent from the outside. 
  • Three Seahawks are averaging in double-figures over their last five games, led by Simmons, who is tallying 13.0 ppg and 6.8 rpg while shooting 50.9 percent from the field. Krista Grava is pouring in 10.6 ppg and 5.6 rpg on 40.0% FG and Edwards is averaging 10.4 ppg and 3.8 rpg. 


Scouting The Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights:
  • Fairleigh Dickinson, who was predicted to finish ninth in the annual preseason coaches' poll, come into tonight's contest with a 4-10 overall record and a 1-2 league mark after picking up a 74-67 home victory over Central Connecticut at home on Saturday. 
  • The Knights opened up league play this season in Western Pennsylvania, squaring off against Saint Francis U (1/5/19), dropping a 75-64 decision and concluded the trip with a 71-49 setback in Moon Township against Robert Morris. 
  • Over the last five games, the Knights, under 12th-year head coach, Peter Cinella, are 2-3 during this span, averaging 63.0 points per game. 
  • The Knights rank second in blocked shots, as FDU is averaging 3.9 rejections a contest. The Knights also rank second in steals, notching 9.6 a game. Additionally, FDU is third in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 29.1 percent shooting from beyond-the-arc. 
  • Collectively, the Knights are averaging 58.8 ppg on 35.5% shooting from the field, 27.3 percent from three-point range and 72.6 percent from the charity stripe, which is tied for first with St. Francis Brooklyn. 
  • Two Knights are averaging double-figures, led by Lauren Francillon, who is pouring in 10.8 ppg while teammate Peniel M'Bikata is tallying 10.4 points per contest in 28.2 minutes a contest. Francillon is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 6.1 caroms a contest.
