Moon Township, PA - The 5-4 Wagner women's lacrosse team, coming off its first-ever victory over Columbia, will open Northeast Conference (NEC) play at Robert Morris on Friday in a 3:00 p.m. start, followed by a matchup at Saint Francis U on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Colonials enter Friday's play with a 4-6 record, having dropped a 7-3 decision to Ohio State last time out. Wagner and RMU have played one comment opponent in Bucknell, with the Seahawks owning a 15-2 win over the Bison while the Colonials suffered a 5-4 double-overtime loss to BU.
For their efforts in the 14-10 win over Columbia on March 28, senior midfielder
Lauren Ednie and freshman midfielder
Erin Kerstetter, were named the
NEC Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Ednie accounted for six points on five goals and one assist vs. Columbia while Kerstetter scored two goals and collected seven draw controls, a season high for the Green & White this season, in the impressive victory over the Lions.
Kerstetter is Wagner's second NEC Rookie of the Week honoree this season as fellow freshman midfielder
Ally Alliegro has copped this honor three times – on March 5, March 12, and March 28. The Bayport, NY native, who had three assists vs. Columbia, leads the team in points with 27 (17g,10a) as well as draw controls with 27.
Ednie is second on the team with 26 points on a team-best 25 ground balls and one assist. Ranking third on the team in points is junior attack
Anna Belle Reilly with 22, which have come on nine goals and a team-high 13 assists.
Splitting time in goal this season for the Seahawks has been the senior tandem of
Lucy Darlington and
Kelsey Fee. Darlington, who has logged 403:16 in goal while gaining the start in all nine games, has a 9.67 goals against average and .496 save percentage on 64 saves. Fee, who has played 143:34 in six game off the bench, has an 8.78 goals against average and a save percentage of .467 on 15 saves.
As a team, the Seahawks rank No. 6 nationally, and No. 1 in the NEC with 11.89 caused turnovers per game. Wagner is also No. 6 in the nation with 23.67 ground balls per game, which is No.3 in the NEC.
