Softball Prepares For 12-Game California Road Trip

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team, under the direction of first-year head coach Lindsey Ubrun, will make the long flight to the West Coast, as the Seahawks will start a 12-game slate in California, starting with the Louisville Slugger Tournament, hosted by the University of the Pacific, this weekend.

On Friday and Saturday, the Seahawks will face both San Jose State University, as well as the University of the Pacific, before taking on Providence College on Sunday. Next up, the Green and White is scheduled to play a doubleheader against Sacramento State on Tuesday, March 6.

Wagner is coming off a 2-3 start to the season at the Homewood Suites Invitational, hosted by North Carolina State University of the ACC. After opening the 2018 campaign with two tight losses, the Seahawks earned their first victory in an 11-0 offensive outburst over Delaware State last Saturday.

One day later, the Green and White picked up another win over the Hornets, as a two-run home run over the left field fence by junior Jessica Carlucci gave Wagner a 2-1 victory.

Following the opening weekend of competition, the Seahawks also picked up their first Northeast Conference (NEC) weekly award of the season, as freshman pitcher Arielle Koerber was named the NEC Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Koerber picked up both of Wagner's victories in her first collegiate action, allowing just one hit in three innings in the Green and White's first win of the season, while going the distance in the Seahawks' tightly-contested 2-1 comeback victory over Delaware State, allowing just one run on four hits for the first complete game of her career.

Offensively, Carlucci paces Wagner with a .429 average, while sophomore Zoe Bender leads the squad with five hits on the year. Senior Maite Reece's four RBIs lead the Seahawks after one week of competition.

Following this weekend, Wagner stays in California and travels to Stanford, CA, for a combined five games against CSU Bakersfield and Stanford University.
