Stony Brook, NY  – The Wagner women's basketball team embarks on its final non-conference road trip of the 2018-19 season when the Seahawks head to Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon to square off against the Seawolves of the America East Conference in a 2:00 p.m. tip.


Opening Tip:
  • The Seahawks are 0-1 this season against America East opponents, falling to the University of Vermont, 56-54, in overtime, back on November 23 as part of the 2018-19 TD Bank Classic, hosted by the Catamounts.
  • The Green & White are looking to snap a six-game losing streak after falling to Army West Point, 61-46, last Saturday at the Spiro Sports Center. 
  • The Green & White will have a one more contest in 2018 as they return home to the Spiro Sports Center on Friday, December 21 as they welcome local rival, College of Staten Island (CSI) Dolphins for 5:00 p.m. tip (*This game moved from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Full Details, click here).

Last Time Out For Wagner:
  • Junior forward Jordan Hobson ignited the Wagner College women's basketball team's offense in the first quarter but the Seahawks couldn't stop Army West Point's late momentum, dropping a 61-46 home decision on Saturday afternoon.
  • Hobson, who was one of three Seahawks to place in double figures, converted 14 of her career and team-leading 15 points in the opening period, in which she converted on 5-of-7 from the field, highlighted by connecting on her first four three-point opportunities. The Richmond, CA native also pulled down a team-high five rebounds in 18 minutes of action.
  • Redshirt sophomore forward Taylah Simmons and senior guard Nakylia Carter each scored 11 points with Simmons corralling four caroms and tying for the team lead with three assists while Carter was able to swipe three steals for Wagner.
  • Army's Madison Hovren led all scorers with a game-high 32 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor. Eleven of her 32 points came from the charity stripe (11-of-15). Hovren also pulled down a game-best 14 rebounds, eight of which coming on the defensive end.
  • Jessica Rawls added eight points and ten rebounds off the bench for Army.


Inside The Wagner | Stony Brook Series:
  • Wagner and Stony Brook are meeting for the third time in the last four years and the 13th time overall with Wagner leading the head-to-head series, 8-4.
  • The Seawolves took last season's matchup, 69-50 on Staten Island. 
  • For Stony Brook, the Wagner contest marks the third Northeast Conference (NEC) opponent in the last four games, as the Seawolves are 2-0 against the Northeast Conference (NEC) this season, after posting victories over Sacred Heart on the road (12/4, 73-58) and most recently, a 63-49 home triumph over Fairleigh Dickinson (12/8). 
  • All-time, Stony Brook holds a 27-29 all-time mark against the current members of the NEC. They have yet to face Mount St. Mary's and Saint Francis U in their history. 


Wagner vs. The America East Conference:  
  • Against the current members of the America East Conference, Wagner is 17-30 all-time.

Empire State Of Mind:
  • Against Division I New York State based programs, Wagner holds a 200-175 all-time record.
  • The most wins the Seahawks have against a NYS-based school is 58, against fellow NEC member, St. Francis Brooklyn (58-20).  Wagner has yet to play schools from New York state (Buffalo, Canisius, and St. Bonaventure).  


Limiting The Three:
  • Through nine games, Wagner ranks second in the conference in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding the opposition to just 27.6 percent shooting from the outside (48-for-174). 


On The Road Again: 
  • Wagner will be playing its sixth road game of the 2018-19 season and are looking for its second win away from the Spiro Sports Center.
  • Three Seahawks are averaging double-figures, led by freshman forward Emilija Krista Grava, who has produced a team-best 12.6 ppg and 7.2 rpg away from the Spiro Sports Center. 
  • Sophomores Taylah Simmons and Khaleah Edwards are both pouring in 10.7 and 10.4 ppg, respectively. 


Several Seahawks Among The Top Ranked In NEC:
  • Sophomore guard Alayshia Dailey is in sole possession of sixth place in the NEC rankings in assists per game, dishing out nearly 3.0 a contest (2.9 apg), tallying a team-high 26. Simmons is also on that list, among the top-15, dishing out 2.3 helpers a contest. 
  • Senior guard Nakylia Carter has swiped a team leading 17 steals thus far this season, which ranks fifth among all-conference players, as Carter is averaging 1.9 a contest. 
  • Junior transfer, Jordan Hobson, is eighth in the league in three-point field goal percentage, hitting 41.4 percent of her chances from beyond-the-arc. 
  • Edwards remains one of the league's top shot blockers, as the second-year Seahawk ranks seventh in the circuit, averaging a rejection a contest (1.0 bpg). 
  • Carter, Edwards and Simmons are among the top-10 in the NEC in minutes played, led by Carter, who is second averaging 34.7 minutes a contest. Edwards is in eighth, logging 32.0 minutes a game while Simmons is not far behind in ninth at 30.7. Krista Grava is among the top-20, recording 29.8 minutes a ballgame. 

 
Scouting The Opposition:
  • After suffering a 61-47 opening night loss to Rutgers on the road, Stony Brook has strung together nine straight victories, most recently, a 53-51 road win at Iona on Tuesday evening. 
  • Over Stony Brook's nine-game winning streak, the Seawolves are outscoring their opponents by nearly 19 points per game (72.0 to 53.2). 
  • During this nine-game win streak, Stony Brook has held its opponents to 60 points or fewer in seven of the nine games, which includes a current stretch of three straight contests.
  • Three Seawolves are averaging double-figures, led by Shania Johnson, who is pouring in 16.4 ppg in a team-best 35.1 minutes per contest. Johnson ranks second in the entire country in assists per game, dishing out 9.0 helpers a contest, which is second to only New Mexico's Aisia Robertson, who is tallying 9.3 a game.  Johnson is among the top-20 in the NCAA in double-doubles, with five. 
  • Jerell Matthews is the team's second leading scorer at 15.9 ppg while India Pagan has tallied 11.3 ppg and a team-leading 6.1 rpg. 
  • Collectively, Stony Brook is averaging 69.5 ppg while shooting 43.8% FG and 34.3 % from beyond-the-arc.

  • Wagner will host its final non-conference game of the 2018-19 season on December 21 at 5:00 p.m. as the Seahawks host nearby rival, the College of Staten Island Dolphins.
