South Orange, NJ – The Wagner College women's basketball team, under the direction of third-year head coach
Heather Jacobs, will tip off the 2018-19 campaign on Tuesday afternoon when the Seahawks travel to South Orange, NJ to face Big East members, Seton Hall.
The women's contest is part of an opening night doubleheader with the men's team, which is slated to tip-off at 6:30 p.m. on FS2.
PRESEASON PREDICTIONS:
- Wagner was predicted to finish tenth in the annual Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, which were announced as part of "Social" Media Day at the Barclays Center back on October 24.
WAGNER IN SEASON OPENERS:
- All-time, the Seahawks are 20-28 in season openers
- The last time the Green & White were victorious on opening day was back on November 12, 2010, under Wagner Hall of Famer, Gela Mikalauskas, as the Seahawks edged out Army West Point, 50-48, in overtime at the Spiro Sports Center.
- Wagner has opened up on the road for the last five seasons, as the last time the squad was home to start the season came back on November 10, 2013, as the Seahawks welcomes SEC members, Kentucky, to Staten Island.
LOOK WHO'S BACK:
- The Seahawks return seven members from last year's squad.
- Morgan Lenahan is the top returning scorer for Coach Jacobs' squad, after averaging 9.5 points per game a season ago.
- Nakylia Carter is the lone senior on this year's roster, and returns as the top assist leader, after dishing out nearly 3.0 a contest last season.
- Taylah Simmons, who netted 8.9 points per game in 2017-18, returns as the team's top rebounder, after pulling down 5.1 per contest last year.
- Alayshia Dailey, Addie Masonius and Joellen How will be at Coach Jacobs's disposal to provide depth in the backcourt.
- Khaleah Edwards is also back for the Green & White, as she is capable of playing multiple positions.
NEW TO THE MIX:
- In all, Wagner welcomes six new players to Grymes Hill.
- Janelle Mullen, who sat out last season after transferring from Saint Peter's University, provides the Seahawks with a player who has Division I experience, as she appeared in 30 games for the Peacocks in 2016-17, while producing ten games with at least ten points.
- Sarah Creanor, who hails from Australia, was a mid-year addition last season and gained valuable experience practicing with the team. For Penrith U-22 squad, she averaged 6.1 ppg, and 3.6 rpg while also dishing out close to two assists a contest.
- Raven Pitt, a native of Queens, NY, is regarded as a lockdown defender and showed why after earning the second First-Team CHSAA honors at St. Joseph's a season ago. Pitt netted 13.5 points per game in leading her squad to the championship last season.
- Up front, Coach Jacobs welcomes three post players in Jordan Hobson, Emilija Krista Grava and Enas Nigatu.
- Hobson, who hails from Richmond, CA, transferred to Wagner from Diablo Valley College where she averaged 11.8 ppg and 7.6 rebounds a contest.
- Krista Grava, the fifth international student-athlete on the 2018-19 roster, averaged 7.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg in 22.5 minutes for Liepajas Papirs back in her home country of Latvia.
- Nigatu rounds out the newcomers for Wagner, arriving from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA, averaged 12.3 ppg, 10.6 rpg and nearly 1.5 blocks per game.

SCOUTING SETON HALL
- The Pirates are coming off a 16-16 season a year ago that resulted in a home WNIT game.
- Seton Hall returns eight letterwinners from last year's squad, which includes four of the top six scorers.
- Head Coach, Anthony Bozzella, enters his sixth season as bench boss of The Hall, posting a 99-64 record.
- Inja Butina is the team's top returning scorer the Pirates after averaging 7.8 points per game. She also led the squad with 3.9 assists, 1.9 steals and shooting 43.5 percent from three-point range.
- The Pirates welcome eight newcomers in freshmen Femi Funeus, Whitney Howell and Danielle Robinson. Graduate transfer Diandra DaRosa, who spent the last two seasons at Virginia Tech, is eligible immediately.
- Desiree Elmore was granted an NCAA waiver to compete this season after spending the last two at Syracuse.
- Two other transfers, Alexia Allesch (Massachusetts) and Alexis Lewis (Iona) will sit out this season while the status of Barbara Johnson (Ole Miss) is pending.
THE SERIES
- Tuesday's games marks just the tenth all-time meeting between the two schools with the Pirates leading the head-to-head series, 7-2.
- These two schools last met on November 23, 2013, in which Seton Hall defeated Wagner, 86-61.
- Wagner will look to snap a three-game losing streak to the Pirates, after last earning a 77-69 victory back on January 20, 1986.
UP NEXT FOR WAGNER:
- The Seahawks will remain on the road as they will make the short trip to the Bronx, NY on Friday, November 9, as they will tangle with Fordham of the Atlantic 10 conference.
- Tipoff from Rose Hill is slated for 7:00 p.m.
