Farmville, VA – The Wagner College women's basketball team concludes its season-opening three-game road stretch as the Seahawks travel to Farmville, VA to square off against the Longwood University Lancers on Wednesday in an 11:30 a.m. tip.
PRESEASON PREDICTIONS:
- Wagner was predicted to finish tenth in the annual Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was announced as part of "Social" Media Day at the Barclays Center back on October 24.
THE WAGNER/LONGWOOD SERIES:
- Wednesday's contest between Wagner and Longwood marks just the second all-time meeting between the two schools, as the Seahawks defeated the Lancers, 60-43, on December 10, 2017 at the Spiro Sports Center.
WAGNER ALL-TIME AGAINST THE BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE:
- The Seahawks are 1-1 all-time against members of the current Big South Conference.
- Last season, the Green & White defeated Longwood, 60-43, at the Spiro Sports Center.
- The previous matchup against a Big South opponent came way back in the 1978-79 season, as Wagner fell to High Point, 110-59, in North Carolina.
A WIN WEDNESDAY WOULD:
- Give the Seahawks their first win of the 2018-19 season.
- Extend Wagner's win streak against Longwood to two straight games.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS:
- Longwood enters Wednesday's contest looking for its first win of the 2018-19 season, after falling to VCU, 84-55, back on November 14 in Richmond, VA
- Three Lancers finished in double-figures for first-year head coach, Rebecca Tillett, led by Stephanie Guihon, who finished with 14 points on just 1-of-5 shooting from the field, but converted on 11-of-14 from the free throw line.
- Dayna Rouse chipped in 11 points while Mallory Odell finished the contest with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds in defeat.
KHALEAH ENJOYS CAREER EVENING AT FORDHAM:
- Second-year Seahawk, Khaleah Edwards, produced one of her finest games in a Wagner uniform at Fordham on Friday evening.
- The London, England native led the Green & White with a career and team-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, which included four made three pointers in her 32 minutes of action.
- For Edwards, it marked the sixth time in her young Wagner career that she has tallied double-figures while marking the first time she has led the club in scoring.
- Additionally, Edwards grabbed a team-high five rebounds against the Rams, which also marked the first time she has led the squad in the rebounding department.
KRISTA CLEAR:
- For the second straight contest, freshman forward Emilija Krista Grava netted 15 points, on 6-of-11 shooting against Atlantic 10 members, Fordham, on Friday evening.
- For her performance, Krista Grava was tabbed to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Prime Performer list for the week ending on Monday, November 12.
- In the season opener at Seton Hall, Krista Grava kicked off her collegiate career by coming within one rebound of a double-double.
- The native of Latvia, finished the contest with a team-best 15 points and nine boards.
- She became the first Seahawk since the 2014-15 season to record 10 or more points and a minimum of nine rebounds since Ugo Nwaigwe did so back in the season opener on the road against VCU, as she finished with 10 points and 17 rebounds.
