CCSU's Mike Appeal earned his third win of the season (3-3) after tossing six innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, one earned while walking four and striking out three. Jared Gallagher was credited with the save, getting the final out as the tying run was in the on-deck circle.
The Blue Devils erupted for five runs in the first inning off four hits. Back-to-back walks to Dean Lockery and Tyler Coleman brought up Ryan Costello, who singled to right field scoring Lockery. An RBI single from Buddy Dewaine scored Coleman, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Guilmette walked, loading the bases for CCSU. Kanios took Mormile's 0-2 pitch to right field, adding two more runs before Nick Garland singled to right scoring Guilmette for the fifth run of the frame.
Wagner chipped into the lead in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to just a two-run lead at 5-3. Junior SS
Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) drew a one-out walk. Freshman designated hitter
Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ]) singled to right while sophomore 1B
Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) followed with a base hit to left center, loading the bases for junior LF
Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville).
Godino drew a seven-pitch walk, scoring the Seahawks' first run of the contest. Silvestrone reached on an error by the CCSU first baseman, which plated both Capra and Sabido.
In the top of the fourth, the Blue Devils tacked on five more runs, in upping their lead to 10-3. Coleman lofted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Nick Landell. Costello was intentionally walked, and Buddy Dewaine was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Guilmette.
On a 0-1 pitch, Guilmette singled to left center, scoring both Costello and Lockery for the third runs of the innings. Chris Kanios beat out an infield bunt to third, reloading the bases for the Blue Devils. Jennings took a 1-0 pitch into right field and advanced to second on the throw home as Guilmette and Dewaine crossed the plate on the play.
After being held off the scoreboard for three innings, the Green & White rallied in the final frame. CCSU went to the bullpen in bringing in Tom Curtin. After getting Sabido and Capra to flyout, Godino drew a walk and moved into scoring position when Cala singled. Silvestrone connected on his second hit of the day, a hard-hit ball to shortstop, loading the bases.
On a 1-1 pitch, Pecora cleared the bases with a three-run double that rolled all the way to the left centerfield wall. Wagner went to their bench as freshman
Eric Lauk (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) was summoned to pinch-hit for freshman 3B
Nick D'Amore (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti). CCSU countered by bringing in Gallagher. On a 3-1 pitch, Lauk doubled to centerfield, scoring Pecora and cutting the lead to 10-7. Gallagher was able to close out the game, getting sophomore catcher
James Wise (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) to ground out to first as the Blue Devils earned a split of Friday's doubleheader.
