Staten Island, NY - After an exciting sweep of Manhattan during the week, the Wagner College softball team readies for its home opener, as the Seahawks will take on Quinnipiac for a two-game set on Saturday, with game one set for 11:00 am.
First Sweep Of The Season: Junior
Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ / Verrado) earned two victories on Wednesday, as the Wagner College softball team defeated Manhattan College 5-4 in a thrilling come-from-behind victory in game one and a wire-to-wire 3-1 win in game two to earn its first sweep of the year.
Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ / The Lawrenceville School) had three RBIs on the day, none bigger than a clutch two-run double to right center in game one, tying the game at four apiece.
Prihoda Leads The Way: Sophomore standout
Karen Prihoda collected three more RBIs at Manhattan to regain the team lead with eight runs batted in on the season. Prihoda is second on the team with a .375 batting average while also leading the team in hits (21), total bases (28), runs (8) while being only one of two players to start in every game.
Scouting The Bobcats: Quinnipiac, who competes in the MAAC, enters the weekend with a 7-13 record and plays fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) opponent LIU Brooklyn on Friday before traveling to Grymes Hill. The Bobcats have lost five out of their last six games, with the last victory coming over Murray State as part of the Cal State Northridge Tournament.Â
Last Time vs. The Bobcats: The Seahawks last faced the Bobcats, who competed in the Northeast Conference (NEC) prior to moving to the MAAC, in a doubleheader back in 2013, as the Green and White was defeated 6-4 in the first game and 6-5 in game two.Â
Milestone Watch: Senior
Brianna Tredway hit her 30th career double in Wagner's loss to Utah State on March 10 and is up to 33 for her career after collecting another extra base hit against Manhattan. The fourth-year Seahawk needs six more doubles to tie Victoria Bastistelli for fifth on the all-time list and currently leads the team with a .535 average. Former Wagner great Andrea Lazzari currently leads the category with 50 doubles throughout her career.
Next Up For Wagner: The Seahawks will travel to Rider on March 29 before facing off with Central Connecticut in their first NEC games of the season on April 1.Â
