Tournament Central Page

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team opens the 2017 season on Friday, March 3, at the Elon Tournament. The Seahawks will face Saint Joseph's in the season opener and will also square off with Elon and Iona during the three-day tournament.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT 2017 THE SEAHAWKS:
  • The Seahawks enter their second season under head coach Angie Churchill
  • The Seahawks roster will feature five seniors, in pitchers McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL / Lakewood Ranch) and Gina Massaro (Levittown, PA / Conwell-Egan Catholic), as well as outfielders Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA / Valley Center) and Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown West), and infielder Aerika High (Manheim, PA / Manheim Central).
  • Tredway led the way with 14 doubles a season ago, while Gilbert tied for the team lead with five home runs.
  • Goodale and junior Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ / Verrado) will be a dynamic duo for Wagner in the pitching circle, as the two combined for 16 wins and 144 strikeouts last season.
  • Wagner returns sophomore Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ / The Lawrenceville School), who was voted First-Team All-NEC a season ago, becoming the first Seahawk rookie to earn First-Team All-League honors in a decade.
  • While starting all 49 games at second base last season, the left-hand hitting Prihoda led the Green & White in three major offensive statistical categories – batting average (.353), which ranked fourth overall in the NEC, base hits (55), which ranked fifth, as well as on-base percentage (.392). In NEC play, Prihoda batted a robust .388 while defensively, carrying a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in conference games, successfully handling 58 chances on 31 putouts and 27 assists.
  • The Green and White will have a young roster with 15 total underclassmen on the roster, who will look to make an impact right away.
  • The Seahawks were picked to finish eighth in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, with defending champion LIU Brooklyn taking the top spot in the poll.

AROUND THE HORN: The Seahawks bring back a majority of its starters. In addition to Prihoda, junior Maddie Marable (Reno, NV / Earl Wooster), sophomores Erica Krumbine (Freehold, NJ / Saint John Vianney High School) and Jessica Carlucci (Manalapan, NJ / Saint John Vianney High School), are back and have all played more than 40 games for the Green & White. Krumbine batted .274 with 17 RBIs. Carlucci provides a power bat in the Seahawk lineup, as she was third on the team with three home runs during the 2016 campaign.

IN THE OUTFIELD: Tredway and Gilbert provide senior leadership in the outfield. Tredway was second on the team last year with a .312 batting average, while Gilbert drove in a team-high 30 RBIs.  With Tredway and Gilbert, junior Maite Reece (Covina, CA / Gabrielino) and sophomore Lauren Serrato (Litchfield Park, AZ / Verrado High School) along with three freshman, Zoe Bender (Glen Rock, NJ / Glen Rock), Hannah Lewis (Perry Hall, MD / Perry Hall), and Kat Holmes-Stall (Trabuco Canyon, CA / Santa Margarita Catholic) will be patrolling the Wagner outfield.

IN THE CIRCLE: Goodale and Brown will be the Seahawks' main duo in the pitching circle. Last season, Goodale had the lowest ERA on the team (2.70) and started 17 games along with 27 total appearances. The senior also registered four saves in 2016, bringing up her career total to six. Brown recorded 102 strikeouts last season, which is second all-time in Wagner history for a single season, only trailing Krystle Petty's 113 strikouts in 2001. Fellow senior Gina Massaro, along with sophomore Ciera Luna (Highland, CA / Aquinas High School) will also provide extra depth in the bullpen for the Green and White.
