Box Score 2 Deland, FL – The Wagner softball team swept the first day of the Hatter Classic in Deland, FL with a 3-1 win over Bethune-Cookman University followed by a 6-0 shutout against tournament host, Stetson University.
With Friday's sweep, the Seahawks improve to 4-3 overall while Bethune-Cookman and Stetson fall to 3-14 and 13-9, respectively.
Wagner produced a combined 15 hits against the Wildcats and the Hatters.

Maite Reece (Covina, CA/Gabrielino), who pinch ran for sophomore right fielder
Laura Petri (Warminster, PA/William Tenant) after she walked, to take a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Wildcats posed a threat with bases loaded and two outs, however Carlucci shut it down when Bethune-Cookman's Kailey Richard popped up to her to end the inning.
The Seahawks added another two runs in the next inning to take a 3-0 lead. With two runners on second and third, junior leftfielder
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) singled to right center to score junior centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West), who was on third base. The very next batter, Petri, then singled to center field to score freshman second-baseman
Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ/The Lawrenceville School), who had singled earlier in the inning to get on base.
It was the top of seventh inning when Bethune-Cookman rallied with two outs and loaded the bases. The Wildcats were able to score one run after Mariah Davis singled up middle and Bryanna Campos scored on the throw to make it 3-1. Wagner shut it down right after that run however, when Bethune-Cookman's Iesha Waters grounded out to freshman shortstop

Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado) pitched her third complete game, allowing just one run with two strikeouts and two walks.
Wagner registered six hits in the contest, one a piece from Tredway, Prihoda, Gilbert, Petri, Carlucci and sophomore first baseman

After taking a 1-0 lead on a fielding error by Stetson, junior third-baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) began a first inning rally after she doubled to right centerfield with bases loaded and two outs to score Petri and Gilbert. Senior catcher
Megan Moore (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) followed up with a single down the right field line to score High and Marable to take a 5-0 lead.
A strong Wagner defense shut down the Hatters, who had bases loaded in the first and second innings but were all left on base.
The contest remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Wagner's lead grew to 6-0 after Marable singled to right field to get on base and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Moore helped her own cause with a shot up the middle to score Marable.
Junior pitcher
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, Fl/Lakewood Ranch) and the Seahawks then locked it down defensively to secure the 6-0 shutout and first sweep of the season.
Wagner amassed nine hits in seven innings, Moore leading the Seahawks going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Tredway, Prihoda, Gilbert, Petri, Carlucci, Marable and High each contributed a hit a piece.
Goodale pitched the entire contest, striking out two batters.
