Katie Rowan, host the Saint Joseph's University Hawks with opening draw set for 1:00 p.m. at Hameline Field.
The Green & White have opened the season with a difficult four-game road stretch, including a game at No. 3 Syracuse two weeks ago, and enter Saturday's play with a mark of 0-4. The Hawks, who compete in the Atlantic 10, are off to a 1-2 start to the 2016 season. Wagner's home opener was originally set to be played on February 12 vs. Bucknell but was postponed to March 14 due to inclement weather.
The Seahawks, who were
picked second in the NEC Preseason Poll, are led by senior midfielder
Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan), who has recorded a team-high 13 points (8g, 5a), to go with a team-best nine draw controls. She enters the game ranked No. 1 in Wagner history in caused turnovers (175) and ground balls (186) while ranking fourth all-time in draw controls (124).
Senior attacker
Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) is second on the team with five points (4g, 1a). Senior goalie
Katie Ferraro (Ownings Mill, MD/McDonogh) boasts a 10.4 goals against average and leads the team with eight ground balls, while Tumolo and senior midfielder
Gretchen Fay (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) check in with six ground balls apiece.
Like Gegan, her former high school teammate, Fay has also entered the Seahawk record book as with 78 caused turnovers, which ranks fifth on the Wagner all-time career list.
Saturday's game will mark the 13th all-time meeting between the schools. While Saint Joseph's owns the series, 12-0. In the most recent meeting between the two squads,
the Hawks took home a 13-12 win in double-overtime at home on March 2 of last season in a wild back and forth affair.
Saint Joseph's currently ranks fourth in the nation in draw controls per game, earning 16.33 possessions per contest. Individually, junior midfielder Maggie Egan (6g, 9a) and junior attacker Nora McCallion (11g, 3a) lead the Hawks in scoring while Egan has also added a team-best 16 draw controls.
Under second-year head coach Alex Kahoe, Hawks were picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
