Central Connecticut on Senior Day in the Seahawks' final home meet of the season on Saturday, February 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the Spiro Sports Center.
At the completion of the meet, Wagner will recognize its nine seniors, who have excelled in the classroom and in the pool during the past four years.
Erica Curry (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley) is the lone diver of the senior class. Senior
Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY/ Notre Dame Academy) competes in the sprint freestyle events while fellow senior
Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) leads the distance freestyle group.
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/Easthampton),
Michele Detka (Buckeye, AZ/Verrado [University of Houston]) and
Erin Malone (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) each compete in the butterfly events.
Kaitlin Murtha (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) and
Meghan Mendez (Export, PA/PA Cyber) compete in the backstroke events while
Kara Lacoste (Chicopee, MA/Chicopee Comprehensive) competes in the breaststroke, backstroke and individual medley.
Last Time Out The Green & White swam past NEC foe LIU Brooklyn, 166-88, setting four pool records in the process last Saturday. Wagner notched 11 first-place finishes out of the 14 event lineup in improving to 7-3 on the season while remaining undefeated against NEC competition.
Fly Seahawks FlyJunior
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy) was named the
Walsh Electric Female Student-Athlete of the month of January after she finished the month going undefeated in each of her individual events en route to garnering her first
NEC Swimmer of the Week citation of the year. She swept the 100 and 200-yard Breaststroke against the University of Rhode Island (Jan. 16), Bucknell (Jan.17) and LIU Brooklyn (Jan.29). She broke the Wagner pool record in the 100 Breaststroke against URI in a time of 1:06.04 and, most recently, set a pool marker at LIU Brooklyn in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:55.99.
Junior
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy), Lucia and Shaw each swept their individual events against the Blackbirds last weekend, with Shaw setting a pool record in the 1,000 Free (10:43.55) and Nihipali setting the pool record in the 100 Back with a time of 58.42.
Scouting the Blue DevilsThe Blue Devils arrive to Grymes Hill following a 163-87 victory over Sacred Heart last weekend. Central recorded three straight sweeps of first, second and third place finishes in the 100 Back, 100 Breaststroke and the 200 Fly, respectively. Freshman Kaitlyn Troy won the 100 Back with a time of 1:00.10, while senior Alaina Papiro took the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:05.41 and junior Lisa Ward claimed the 200 Fly in 2:11.19. Sophomore Maddy Garber set a Blue Devil pool record in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:19.25.
