Somerset, NJ – Junior breaststroker
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy) of the Wagner women's swimming & diving team has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimmer of the Week following her performance over the weekend, the league announced today.
Claesson began 2016 going undefeated in her events during the first weekend of competition since returning from winter break. The junior helped the Seahawks split a pair of dual meets over the weekend. In Wagner's 170-126 win over the University of Rhode Island, Claesson took first place in the 200 Breaststroke (2:23.81) and also in the 100 Breaststroke, setting a new pool record in a time of 1:06.04.
The junior kept her momentum going on Sunday as she was the lone Seahawk to pick up an individual win against Bucknell. Claesson claimed two individual victories to remain undefeated on the weekend in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke, posting times of 1:05.38 and 2:23.44, respectively.
The Seahawks return to competition on Saturday, Janaury 23, when they host LIU Post in a dual meet at the Spiro Sports Center. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
