(photo by Jason Roberts)Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team fell to Fairfield 6-3 in a single contest on Gymes Hill in non-conference play this afternoon.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 8-14 on the season.
Sophomore centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/ Downingtown West) recorded three of Wagner's 11 hits, going 3-for-4 on the day with one RBI.
Wagner found itself down 3-0 after three innings but fought back to tie the contest 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/ Manheim Central) started the rally when she doubled to left center. Freshman
Laura Petri (Warminster, PA/ William Tennant) singled to the left side to advance High to third, putting runners on the corner with one out. Sophomore right fielder
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/ Valley Center) then grounded out to second base to score High and advance freshman
Maite Reece (Covina, CA/ Gabrielino), who entered the game for Petri, to third base.
The Seahawks strung together back-to-back RBI doubles from senior catcher
Beth Lewis (Ashburn, VA/ Stone Bridge), whose drive hit the back wall, and Tredway, driving in Reece and Lewis, respectively, to tie the game.
The Stags answered right back in the top of the fifth with an RBI single up the middle by Sam Frungillo to make it 5-4, and then pulled away in the seventh when they added on two more runs on a Tori Reed home run.
Freshman
Morgan Brown (Buckeye, AZ/ Verrado) tossed the first four innings, striking out four batters, while only allowing three runs. Senior
Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ/ Sandra Day O'Connor), who worked the final three innings for the Seahawks, recorded three strikeouts and allowing three runs, while scattering three hits, in absorbing the loss and falling to 3-5.
At the plate, senior shortstop
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood), while junior designated player
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/ Fountain Valley) each recorded a hit on the day. Sophomore first baseman
Taylor Beeson ( Mesa, AZ/ Red Mountain), and sophomore second baseman
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/ Lakewood Ranch), each added a hit as well for the Seahawks.
The Green & White return to action at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, when they travel to Iona College for a non-conference doubleheader.
