Loretto, PA – The Wagner College softball team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader to third-place Saint Francis U, falling 15-0 in game one before battling the Red Flash to the wire in a 4-2 defeat in the nightcap.
The Seahawks are now 9-21 overall on the season and 1-11 in conference play, while the Red Flash improve to 25-11 and 6-2 in the NEC.
Game One Recap: Saint Francis 15, Wagner 0Box Score (PDF) In the first game, Saint Francis U scored three runs in the first inning on a Nicole Paiotti home run. The Red Flash scored another two runs in the bottom of the second, before plating five runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings en route to the 15-0, five-inning win.
Sophomore
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) fell to 4-8 on the season, allowing five runs on five hits in 1.1 innings pitched.
Blaire Lauthers (9-4), allowed two hits with one strikeout in three innings in the shutout for Saint Francis U.
Senior shortstop
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/Lynnwood) and sophomore third baseman
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) were both 1-for-2, the only two hits of the contest.

Sophomore second baseman
Taylor Beeson (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain) singled to score sophomore centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/ Downingtown West) who was on second base after being hit by a pitch then stealing second.
The Red Flash tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the third off of a Madison Cabell double down the right field line which scored Kindra Witthus.
Goodale answered for Wagner in the top of the very next inning with a solo home run to left center as Wagner regained the lead at 2-1.
This wouldn't be enough as Saint Francis's Taylor Parson came up big in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run slash in staking the Red Flash to a 4-2 lead, which would be the final score of the contest.
Wagner came up with seven hits in the contest from seven different players. Goodale and Beeson each supplied a hit and an RBI. The five other hits came from Parker, senior
Beth Lewis (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), who was the designated player, junior catcher
Brenda Bott (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley), sophomore right fielder
Hana Gilbert (Valley Center, CA/Valley Center) and freshman left fielder
Maite Reece (Covina, CA/Gabrielino).
Goodale threw the entire six innings, giving up four runs on five hits and striking out two, while Lauthers picked up her second win in the circle, giving up just one hit in four innings pitched.
The Seahawks continue conference play as they head to Robert Morris for a doubleheader at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 19.
