Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's lacrosse team plays host to Robert Morris today at 3:00 p.m. today in a key Northeast Conference (NEC) matchup at Hameline Field.

The Seahawks and Colonials, who Wagner defeated in the 2014 NEC Championship semifinals en route to its first-ever appearance in the title game, enter today's matchup with identical 1-0 records while the Seahawks are 4-7overall while Robert Morris is 8-2 on the season. Riding a four-game winning streak, RMU is enjoying its best 10-game start in program history.

The Green & White won their NEC opener on April 3, sprinting past Mount St. Mary's 13-7 while, on the same afternoon, RMU defeated Saint Francis U by a 17-9 count. In the Seahawks' road win over the Mount last time out, junior midfielder Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Mansquan), the nation's leader in caused turnovers (CT) per game (3.45), contributed a game-high four CTs, while tying for game-high honors with four draw controls and three ground balls, in addition to dishing out a game-high four assists en route to earning her second NEC Defensive Player of the Week award this season and fifth of her career.

Gegan recorded three of her assists in an opening half that saw the Seahawks streak out to a 9-4 lead at the intermission. Earlier in the week, on March 31, Gegan dug out six draw controls, scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers in Wagner's 22-3 victory over Delaware State. On the offensive end, Gegan scored five consecutive first-half goals against the Hornets, before playing sparingly in the second half, as the Seahawks led 13-1 at the break.

The 5-10 Gegan is tied with former high school teammate Gretchen Fay (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) for the team lead with 23 goals (2.09/game, T-9 NEC), while owning the outright team lead in assists (16, 1.45/game, 5th NEC), points (39, 3.55/game, 6th NEC), ground balls (43, 3.91/game, 1-NEC) and caused turnovers (38, 3.45/game, 1-NEC). Gegan also ranks No.2 on the team with 21 draw controls, two behind sophomore Amanda Rey (Turnersville, NJ / Washington Township), who checks in with 23.

In addition to her nation-leading 3.45 CTs per game average, Gegan, the 2014 NEC Defensive Player of the Year, ranks No. 2 nationally, while leading the NEC in ground balls with a 3.91 per game average. Gegan has now won five NEC Defensive Player of the Week awards in her career as she capped the 2014 regular season by claiming the last three weekly defensive honors.

As a team, the 2015 Seahawks currently rank No. 2 nationally, behind UMass (13.27), and No. 1 in the NEC with 12.73 CTs per game, and No. 3 nationally in ground balls per game (21.82).
