Rock Hill, SC – The Wagner College softball team split its first two contests of the 2015 season on Friday afternoon in the Adidas Tournament against Coppin State and tournament-host Winthrop College.
Coppin State 3 vs. Wagner 9The Seahawks took control in the first game of the 2015 campaign as they powered over Coppin State, 9-3.
Senior shortstop
Kelsey Parker (Lynnwood, WA/ Lynnwood) ignited the Seahawks in her first at bat, hitting a two-run home run to score teammate sophomore centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downington, PA/ Downington West).
Following Parker's lead, freshman outfielder
Laura Petri (Warminster, PA/ William Tennent) smashed the Green & White's second two-run homerun of the game as she sent a drive to left center, scoring senior
Beth Lewis (Ashburn, VA/ Stone Bridge). Wagner was not finished as sophomore third basemen
Aerika High (Manheim, PA/ Manheim Central) belted the third homer of the game to centerfield to give Wagner a 5-0 advantage after two innings.
Coppin State got on the board in the third inning scoring two runs on an error to cut the deficit to 5-to-2.
In the fifth inning, the Seahawks took complete control as Bott hit her first home run of the season, the fourth of the contest for the Seahawks, which scored Parker, giving Green & White a 7-2 lead. Bott, who finished the game 2-for-3 with 2 rbis, drilled her second round-tripper of the day in the seventh inning. Freshman outfielder
Maite Reece (Covina, CA/ Gabrielino) followed suit, slugging her first collegiate homerun over the left centerfield wall to secure the 9-3 victory.
Sophomore pitcher
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/ Lakewood Ranch), struck out four batters in five innings pitched before senior reliever
Samantha Bedker (Phoenix, AZ/ Sandra Day O'Connor) came in for the final two innings, yielding just a hit and recording a strikeout.
Wagner 4 vs Winthrop 9In game two of the 2015 Adidas Tournament, the Seahawks were matched up against host, Winthrop as Wagner dropped a 9-to-4 decision to conclude day one.
Winthrop got the board first scoring three runs in the first inning. Wagner mounted a rally in the third inning as Bott and Goodale came around to score on Winthrop miscue. The host Winthrop regained their composure and plated across five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
In the fifth, the Seahawks trimmed the Winthrop lead to 8-to-4 as Bott and Petri continued their hot hitting, scoring sophomore
Taylor Beeson (Mesa, AZ/ Red Mountain) and Parker off a pair of RBI singles.
For the day, Parker went three-for-six with two doubles, one home run and two RBIs. Bott went two-for-five with two home runs and three RBIs
Wagner will be back in action for day two of the Winthrop tournament when they face Appalachian State at 10:00 a.m on Saturday.
