Seahawks Fall At St. Francis Brooklyn 67-55 Despite Nwajei 29

Brooklyn Heights, NY  – Sophomore guard Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/Murry Bertraum), the second-leading scorer in the nation, scored a game-high 29 points but it was St. Francis Brooklyn, led by Sarah Benedetti's 21 points and 19 from Jaymee Veney, which came away with a 67-55 win this afternoon.
 
In coming away with this afternoon's President's Day matinee victory at the Pope Physical Education Center, the Terriers improve to 6-8 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) and 9-17 overall. The Seahawks, who were coming off of Saturday's 82-75 home win over Fairleigh Dickinson, fall to 4-10 in league and 6-19 overall.
 
With her 29-point outing, Nwajei finished one shy of extending her school-record, four-game streak of 30-point games. Through 25 games, Nwajei has now scored 630 points, which computes to a 25.20 average, which puts her within 0.031 of the nation's No. 1 scorer, Ohio State freshman Kelsey Mitchell. who averages 25.231 on 656 points scored in 26 games. Ohio State is next in action on Tuesday, February 17 when the Buckeyes host Purdue at 7:00 p.m.
 
Junior guard Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights. OH/Shaker Heights) was the only other Seahawk in double figures today, finishing with 11, while sophomore forward Taylor Butigian (Rockaway Park, NY/Christ the King) followed her season-high 13-point outing vs. FDU with a seven-point, six-rebound game today.
 
The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday, February 21 when they again make the short trek across the Verrazano Bridge to meet LIU Brooklyn in a 2:00 p.m. tip.
