Game Notes: Wagner I SFU

Staten Island, NY – Due to the snowstorm that is expected to impact the New York City metropolitan area, the Monday, January 26 women's basketball game between Saint Francis U and Wagner College to be played at the Spiro Sports Center will be moved up to a 4:00 p.m. start.

The Northeast (NEC) Conference matchup between the Red Flash (2-16, 1-6 NEC) and Seahawks (4-14, 2-5 NEC) was originally scheduled to be played at 7:00 p.m.

This will be the second meeting between the schools this season as Wagner earned a 76-60 victory back on January 3 in Loretto, PA in the NEC opener for both teams.

Junior guard Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) led three players in double figures with 21 points, while freshman post player Sofia Roma (Richmond Hill, NY/Nazareth Prep) delivered career highs with eight points and 18 rebounds in leading the Seahawks to the win.

Monday's matchup features a battle between the NEC's two leading scorers, Saint Francis U senior guard Alexa Hayward, who enters the game with a league-best 23.3 average, while Seahawk sophomore guard Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/Murry Bergtraum) is the NEC's No. 2 at 22.8 per game.

About Wagner
Wagner will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak when the Seahawks host Saint Francis U in the season's second meeting. The Green & White are coming off of a 77-61 loss at Central Connecticut in a game where Camden Musgrave scored 22 points and Tejahne Malone recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils, which offset a 23-point outing by Nwajei. CCSU, which was picked in a tie for ninth place with Fairleigh Dickinson in the 2014-2015 Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Poll, maintained a share of first place in the league standings at 6-1 along with Bryant (71-67 winners over Sacred Heart). Junior guard Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) , who averages 14.3 points per game, added 18 points for the Seahawks against CCSU, who also received nine points from sophomore guard Lyndsay Rowe (South River, NJ/St. John Vianney). All of Rowe's points came via the long ball as the 5-8 lefty who now averages 7.3 points per game and  who entered the game tops in the NEC in three-point field goal shooting percentage (.434), went 3-of-5 from beyond the arc while playing all 40 minutes. Roma was active in the low post throughout as the 6-2 New York City product scored six points on 3-of-5 shooting while pulling down 10 rebounds. For Roma, the 10 boards mark the second time in her young career that she has reached double-digits in caroms as she snared 18 boards, while tallying a career-high eight points, at Saint Francis U on January 3.
