Staten Island, NY – Sophomore guard Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/Murry Bergtraum) tossed in 32 points, which came on the heels of her 39-point outburst at Vermont on Sunday, but Yale was able to break open a close game with a pivotal run midway through the second half en route to a 90-65 win at the Spiro Sports Center.

The Bulldogs led 40-32 at halftime and when Nwajei converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 14:39 to play, the Seahawks were back to within a single-digit deficit of nine at 51-42. Yale countered, however, with a 14-5 run over the next 5:30, capped by a Sarah Halejian jumper in the lane with 9:09 left. This bucket widened the Bulldogs' lead to 18, at 65-47 and the Seahawks never got closer than 15 the rest of the way.

A key play in the game occurred with 3:57 left in the first half, and the Seahawks down 33-26,when junior guard Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights), Wagner's second-leading scorer on the season, was knocked to the floor on a layup attempt .

The 5-6 lefty, who entered tonight's contest just 34 points away from becoming the 24th player in Seahawk history to reach the 1,000-point career mark, left the game at this juncture having scored seven points, and did not return, leaving her with 973 career points.

Nwajei, the reigning NEC Co-Player of the Week, shot 13-fo-28 from the floor, while adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Peck's seven points, which came in just 16 minutes of action, tied for second on team with freshman guard Tanasia Russell (Vineland, NJ/Vineland).

Sophomore forward Jackie Dluhi (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) added five points and was a force on the glass, pulling down a career-high 11 rebounds, to go with two assists and a steal during a spirited and energetic 33-minute stint. Sophomore guard Lyndsay Rowe (South River, NJ/St. John Vianney) and freshman center Sofia Roma (Richmond Hill, NY/Nazareth Regional) chipped in with four points apiece.

Guard Nyasha Sarju paced a balanced Yale effort with 22 points, Katie Werner added 17, while Sarah Halejian and Lena Munzer chimed in with 12 points apiece.  Munzer added a game-high 11 rebounds in posting a double-double.

Yale out-shot Wagner 43.8 percent to 39.1 percent and was particularly effective from long range, knocking down 8-of-13 shots (61.5 percent) from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs held a 24-7 advantage in points off turnovers while leading in bench points by a 30-13 margin. Yale owned a 54-41 edge in the rebounding department yet points in the paint were dead even at 44-44.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 0-9 on the season while Yale improves to 4-5.

Wagner is next in action on Sunday, December 21 when the Green White host Stony Brook in a 1:00 p.m. tip-off at the Spiro Sports Center.

NOTES - Nwajei's 32-point outing tonight marked the third time that she has topped the 30-point mark three times this season, havinf scored 39 at Vermont (12/14), and 32 at VCU (11/14). The 5-8 New York City native is now averaging a robust 20.7 points per game.
