Fairfield, CT - The Wagner women's basketball team will look to improve its Northeast Conference (NEC) record to 3-4 when the Seahawks travel to Fairfield, CT to meet the Pioneers of Sacred Heart in a 2:00 pm tip-off on Saturday, January 25 at the William H. Pitt Center.
The Wagner-Sacred Heart matchup is a rematch of the January 13 game played on Staten Island. In the first contest between the schools this season, three-time and current NEC Rookie of the Week
Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/Murry Bergtraum) recorded career highs with 28 points and nine assists, while sophomore guard
Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) added 21 points as Wagner shot a season-high 56 percent from the floor in defeating the Pioneers 79-70 at the Spiro Sports Center.
The Seahawks enter Saturday's contest at 2-4 in the NEC and 3-14 overall while Sacred Heart is 7-10 on the season, 4-2 in league play. Heading into the first game between these schools, the Pioneers boasted a perfect 3-0 record.
This marks the 29th all-time meeting between the schools and, following the Seahawks' win over the Pioneers earlier this month, Sacred Heart holds a 19-9 series lead.
Wagner is coming off of a tough 74-63 loss at Robert Morris (1/20). In a game that featured 10 ties and nine lead changes, the Seahawks' prolific backcourt combination of Peck and Nwajei tallied 23 and 22 points, respectively.
Peck is the conference's second-leading overall scorer at 19.3 points per game, and is also second in the NEC with a 24.3 average, having hit for 20 or more points in all six league games. Nwajei's average, meanwhile, is up to 15.0 points, the highest scoring average among all NEC freshmen. Nwajei, who has played in five conference games, also tops the league in NEC only scoring at 22.8 points per game, along with 7.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 2.2 steals.
In the front court, redshirt sophomore center
Ugo Nwaigwe (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) is developing into one of the NEC's top post players. In six NEC games, the 6-3 Nwaigwe is averaging 8.3 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting a healthy 64% from the floor.
The NEC's leading shot-blocker, Nwaigwe's 3.0 average entering the January 20 Robert Morris game also ranked 12th nationally. Nwaige has blocked 52 shots this season in just 17 games, a figure that ranks fourth on the Wagner single-season blocked shots list. She is now up to 68 for her career which, in just 52 career games, has already placed Nwaigwe eighth on the Seahawk all-time career list.

NOTES
Nwajei Earns Third NEC Rookie of the Week Honor
Earlier this week, freshman point guard

Against the Mount, she poured in a game-high 25 points on 10-of-24 shooting, while dishing out seven assists and grabbing four rebounds in a stat-filling 38-minute stint in a game that saw the Mountaineers pull away late for an 89-78 win. In Monday's hard-fought 74-63 loss at first-place Robert Morris, Nwajei again filled the stat columns, tallying 22 points, to go with eight rebounds, five steals and four assists, while shooting 6-of-15 from the field and 10-of-15 from the line
