Hackensack, NJ – Freshman guard
Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/ Shaker Heights) capped her impressive freshman campaign with 19 points and senior forward
Marie-Laurence Archambault (Montreal, Quebec/ Montmorency) added 13 in the final game of her productive career but it was not enough as Fairleigh Dickinson held off the scrappy Seahawks, 59-54.
With the loss, the Seahawks conclude their injury-riddled 2012-2013 season with a 3-26 record, 2-16 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while FDU improves to 12-17, 7-11 in the conference.
The game was tied 21-21 at the half with both teams cold from the field. Wagner hit 7-of-30 shots for 23% in the opening stanza while the Knights were just 6-of-35 which computes to 17% shooting.
There was very little separation between the teams in the opening seven-plus minutes of the second half and when sophomore guard
Jacqui Thompson (Southampton, PA. St. Basil Academy) hit a driving layup with 12:47 left to play it was a 31-29 game with the FDU on top. Tiffany Grant answered with a three-point jumper which triggered a quick 10-0 FDU run over the next 2:19 that gave the Knights their biggest lead of the game at 41-29 with 10:28 left.
The Seahawks fought back with a 10-4 run, capped by a layup by junior forward
Laura Amorosa (Kirkland, Quebec/ Phillips Academy) off a steal by Peck that drew the Green & White to within six at 45-39 with 3:53 remaining. Wagner would get as close as five points on two occasions the rest of the way. At the 1:20 mark Archambault drained the final three-pointer of her career to make it 54-49 before Peck sailed in a rainbow three with 10 seconds to go to fashion the final score at 59-54.
The ever-hustling senior guard
Veronick Fournier (Gatineau, Quebec/ Montmorency) ended her Seahawk career in typical fashion, snaring a team-high 10 rebounds to go with seven points and a steal while playing the entire 40 minutes. At 5-9, Fournier finished the season tops on the team in rebounding at 5.9 per game. The balance in her game is illustrated in the final season stat page which reflects that her point and rebound totals were identical as she scored 171 points while grabbing 171 rebounds on the season. Amorosa and sophomore forward
Stephanie Blais (Sherbrooke, Quebec/ Montmorency) chipped in with six and five points, respectively while Thompson added four points and a team-high three assists.
FDU center Erika Livermore matched Wagner's Peck for game-high honors with 19 points while pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds. Guard Amanda Andrades also recorded a double-double for the Knights, with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Andrades had an interesting stat line as she was just 1-of-8 from the field but made a living at the line, sinking 10-of-15 free throw attempts.
Wagner outshot FDU 31%-22% but the Knights enjoyed an overwhelming advantage at the foul line, making 28-of-39 free throws (72%) while the Seahawks were 12-of-17 (71%) from the charity stripe. Wagner was whistled for 27 fouls on the evening while FDU committed just 17.The Knights also held the advantage in the rebounding department, snaring 55 boards while the Seahawks managed 44.
