Box Score West Long Branch, NJ – The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to Monmouth 85-57 on Saturday afternoon at the Multipurpose Activity Center. In the defeat, the Seahawks fall to 3-25 and 2-15 in the NEC, while the Hawks improve to 14-14, and 11-6 in conference play.
The Green & White were led offensively by sophomore
Stephanie Blais (Sherbrooke, Quebec/ Montmorency), as her 23 points marked the 15
th time this season she was in double figures. Blais was 10 of 17 from the floor, with the 10 made field goals marking a career high. The 23 points from Blais were one shy of her career high. Freshman
Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/ Shaker Heights) was also in double figures, chipping in 13 points for her 13
th game this season of 10 or more points.
Wagner trailed 12-4 in the early going before the Seahawks hit back-to-back threes from senior
Veronick Fournier (Gatineau, Quebec/ Montmorency) and junior
Laura Amorosa (Kirkland, Quebec/ Phillips Academy) to make it 12-10. From there, Monmouth would go on a 15-2 run to extend the advantage to 27-12. The two teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the first half, with Monmouth holding a 35-21 advantage going into the locker room.
In the second half, Blais scored 14 points, while Peck had 12 of her 13. Wagner outscored Monmouth, 31-18, in the final 10:55 of the game.
The Seahawks return to action on Monday, March 4, when they travel to Fairleigh Dickinson for a 7:00 pm start in the Green & White's final game of the season.
